- "Pure" OCD
Watch a video on Jaron Lanier or read his book ten arguments to delete your social media accounts right now. He explains how the effects of social media ( irritability, anxiety, stratification) are because of the way it’s algorithms are set up and how it’s intention is to use your irritable emotions to keep you on the apps for longer and “engaged”. For me I tried limiting my usage by deleting the apps and using it on a web browser (made it harder to access but still having the option of it being there) and then eventually I quit. Quitting won’t change your life drastically but it will improve it a lot after you get past the discomfort of not using something you used to use often.
Thank you! I appreciate that
Thanks for sharing. I just watched two short clips of him speaking on the matter and I’m going to delete my Instagram now. I’ve already been without Facebook for about 7 years and ever since I realized I have OCD (back in July) I have been constantly deleting and then re-downloading Instagram onto my phone. I get so triggered from it and it’s just not good for all the reasons he lists. So, thanks again! I would highly encourage anyone to do it, but especially people deeply struggling with OCD. What else do we have to lose? It can truly on help.
@NewToOCD8 Omg I’m so glad you made that decision ! Social media does have some benefits but it’s not worth it because its negatives heavily outweigh it. I think that for people who have OCD social media usage can be a buffer to being alone and doing exposures to your thoughts etc. This is a huge step ! And I’m glad you’re taking it. Heavily reccomend reading his book (you can find it online for free) if you can, it goes into more detail.
it is. it really is, and that’s why i quit all socials except for youtube 2 months ago. truly the best decision
I agree. I only use YouTube and Discord these days.
