exactly! your dreams are just your subconscious working through and sorting thoughts, ideas, memories, problems etc. That’s why people say “your brain is always awake, even when you sleep.” Processing things you fear, think about, do, hear, and everything you experience is something your brain can only do while you sleep (which is why people literally can’t live without sleeping). Anyway, dreams don’t have any coralation to desires, wishes, and don’t tell the future like they’re depicted to do in modern media, they only reflect your experiences, inside and outside of your head. Dreams are also the result of processing trauma, so even things you don’t think about consciously during the day can get tossed around in your head at night, and show up in a dream. If it helps, think of it like, as you live through your day and experience things, you’re constantly giving your subconscious brain hundreds of tubes of colored paint. You give it one tube for each thing you see, do, think about, etc. then at night, your subconscious has to get rid of all that paint somehow, cause it’s taking up too much space, so it squeezes out all those tubes of paint on a big canvas, hundreds of colors, each one received from you throughout the day. Then your subconscious, once it’s run out of paint to use, gives you the painting. the colors are randomly splattered around, mixed together in random places, and generally makes no sense and has no meaning. it’s just colors on a canvas, meant to get rid of paint as quickly as possible. Thats what your dreams are. Worrying about what they represent or mean, as tempting as it is, doesn’t get you anywhere, because your dreams weren’t created with any meaning to begin with. Just take that canvas, give it a once-over if you want, then toss it out to make room for the next one tomorrow. Hope this helps :)
