Guilt
Hi. How do y’all deal with guilt relating to your thoughts? It’s killing me. I hate this illness so much.

Remind myself that it’s an illness and my thoughts are not desires.
Thoughts o my have meaning when you give them meaning. I have intrusive thoughts and images all the time, every day. So what? Doesn’t matter unless I make it matter.

The guilt is really hard. I find that sharing openly with my therapist helps. And sharing with my partner, with her consent, helps a lot too and builds trust between us. Recently my therapist encouraged me to think about the difference between guilt and taking responsibility. Taking responsibility can be really healthy. For me that was awesome because it allowed me to look at some stuff I felt guilty about and say actually that's a feeling of responsibility and I'm proud of that.
@Jesse M. Can you explain this please?
@Anonymous-r Here's an example about taking care of myself: I felt so guilty about not taking good care of myself and I see how that contributed to my OCD, anxiety, and depression. And it's ok to feel guilty about that. But it's also really important for me to recognize that I take a lot of responsibility for taking care of myself, and that's a very positive thing, because it helps me, and helps me to keep growing and learning.
