I very often reread stuff over and over if I don't understsnd every single word. I can look at basic words so long I begin to doubt whether it's actually the word I thought it was.
How often do you experience this? And do you know if there's any specific cause?
@sleepy💤 Mine is all OCD related. At the moment it's very regular.
Ugh yessss the last time I read a series it took me so long because I kept rereading things and going slow because I felt like I wasn’t takin it all in and I didn’t want to miss anything. It became exhausting. It made reading feel like a chore tbh
Do you know of any specific causes for this? Is it just something everyone does?
No this was an ocd thing I was so concerned with getting every word of the book because I liked it (that was the obsession) and my compulsion was re reading constantly
@krisbliss To treat it I had to use erp and tell myself that I don’t need to remember every detail and I had to stop doing the compulsion
@krisbliss Oh, okay. Thank you so much! Very informative.
@krisbliss Also, how would you say your reading is now? Do you retain enough to follow what you're reading? Does it get better?
@sleepy💤 I’m glad I could help :) I haven’t read a lot of books recently so I’m not exactly sure how I would do with a novel or something, but yes!!! it does get better. Erp has made a huge difference for me for a lot of obsessions. If I have a lot on my mind or something is boring I might stop paying attention to what I’m reading (documents and stuff) but that’s pretty common 😅 and it hasn’t been really bad recently or anything
@krisbliss Ah, okay. Thank you so much!!
@sleepy💤 Of course :) good luck!
