Magical thinking is called magical for a reason. It has absolutely no scientific basis. Neither does the law of attraction—it’s pseudoscience. Neither are influencing the other nor anything else, because they aren’t real except insofar as they are concepts that exist with no supporting evidence.
I should be clear—magical thinking is a very real phenomenon, as many here are all too familiar with. The link between the things magical thinking tells you will happen as a result of xyz action and said action is what has no scientific basis or supporting evidence.
I asked because I noticed that my magical thinking worsened when I read about law of attraction. Like I got confirmation that thoughts can influence things to happen.
I mean, that makes perfect sense to me, that it would get worse after reading about the law of attraction. Reading that provided positive reinforcement to your brain that your magical thinking is real. However, it isn’t real, and neither is the law of attraction. It’s a lie OCD and proponents of pseudoscience tell you.
Here is a really good article about the law of attraction by someone with ocd: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vice.com/amp/en/article/zmapne/the-idea-of-manifesting-your-future-may-be-bad-for-mental-health
Thanks
this is why i strongly believe the concepts of law of attraction and manifestation are really toxic. it's just another form of toxic positivity, really. the idea that you are only allowed to think good things or else the universe will punish you - why would the universe be punishing you for doing a normal thing that your body was designed for? what an awful idea.
