I have multiple diagnoses as well Panic disorder, major depressive disorder, social anxiety, and OCD. ERP has helped with all.

I’ll keep seeking out ERP, for sure. A part of me wonders if my comorbidities aren’t seeing any improvement due to ERP still being very difficult. Fingers crossed that everything improves to some extent as I (hopefully) make some headway

@Getting there I hope so too! Good luck! I'm starting soon too.

You should try another OCD therapist and see how it goes. I did a lot of the stuff on my own but not everyone can do that. Sometimes it’ll make it worse because you don’t know how to do it properly and/or you don’t have the discipline or motivation to do it fully on your own, so you get worse.

Do you have any recommendations for good places to find therapists? I’ve tried three for OCD in total, two from NOCD’s services and one from using Psychology Today. I’m struggling with other mental health issues as well, and my past OCD therapists were unable to treat me in those regards due to not having the experience.

@Getting there I don’t have anywhere for recommendations because my therapist has 30+ years and basically does everything, so it worked out for me.

@Getting there If you have multiple mental illnesses, you’ll probably have to find multiple therapists.

@Nica Unfortunately I don’t have the money or time to see more than one therapist. Thank you for the advice, though.

Sorry to hear that. Did you get referred on this app?

I did, both times. I don’t think it’s NOCD’s fault (or the individual therapists’), rather I have a lot of different diagnoses and issues that require their own specific treatments. It’s rare enough to find therapists in my area that specialize in one, let alone multiple at a time

@Getting there I see. I have my first appointment coming up and I've got two other diagnoses too (GAD and depression) and panic disorder too not sure if that counts as a third. But I was on another app and the person ruined my trust too. Right as I'm in crisis and it's awful. I hope we can both find someone good soon.

@Catperson10 Good luck to you. Hopefully your upcoming appointment goes well—for what it’s worth, I have diagnosed GAD and depression, and both therapists I saw through NOCD handled them beautifully.

@Getting there Oh that's fantastic! My last therapisy just said that worry is a choice and I'm like that is so unhelpful and I'm in a bad spot now. So thank you that is great to hear.

Take a look through the psychologists & therapistsd listed on your insurance. Usually your insurance has an online portal you can search through listed providers.

It could be possible to treat a severe scrupulosity OCD without taking medication and asking guidance from the psychiatrist? I can't afford for professional consultation 🥹. Can anybody give me some advices on how to deal with these intrusive thoughts? 🙏

Has anyone else had a rough start? I’m 4 sessions in and have had no actual ERP work happen, I have 2 different therapists because none have availability to meet 2 times a week. Both those therapists are not available for the next 2 weeks so now I’m going to see a new 3rd one. Each time I’ve seen a new therapist I feel like the whole first session is spent with them re explaining everything. I’m paying for this out of pocket because they don’t accept Tricare which is my insurance as a Retired Marine. So I’m 960 in, and honestly feel worse than when I started. I get zero suggestions on what to do between sessions and feel so incomplete after my session finishes. I feel like I’ve gotten more help asking chat gpt questions on EPR and how to deal with ROCD than I do in my sessions . Does anyone have any insight or helpful advice here?

Hi! I’m trying to say this story as short as possible. I started realizing I was having an ocd flare up a long time ago and I chose private psychotherapy because I thought it would be better. I had a bunch of other issues and I wanted one quick (I had tried 2 before) and when I met someone that I felt was kind of okay I trusted them with my ocd. The thing was that she was NOT specialized in ocd, in fact, looking back I realize that she barely knew how to handle it at all. I had a really good one when I was younger and I was not having symptoms when I quit years ago, so it surprised me a LOT that all I had learned got unlearned because I trusted a bad psychologist. I have currently Rocd and a bit of compulsive staring as well, plus tricomania. I really really want to warn you, DON’T LET A NON OCD SPECIALIST GIVE YOU ADVICE OR ERP!!!!! It has taken me a while to realize all the damage she did. But I was so desperate for a solution at the time that I ignored the signs. She had no idea what she was doing and she actually asked me what we should do! She also made my staring worse, because she told me to try to not look (which is actually wrong), she also asked me if I was really in love with my partner, EVEN THOUGH I HAD NO DOUBTS AT THE TIME!!! She thought that I actually wanted sex with someone else and was like yeah it’s normal some people do that, instead of understanding my feelings and that I actually didn’t want to, but it was an intrusive thought. (It was very different from the classic: you know what maybe maybe not erp thing) She misunderstood everything and I now have to rewire my brain.
