I know that for me the thoughts will adopt my “voice” so to speak. You know how your thoughts SOUND like you? That’s the worst part. The ocd will use “my” voice

Intrusive thought are still your thoughts, they are just repetitive and untrue. Ur amigdila sends a thought that it thinks is dangerous to ur raltionalizing pary of ur brain then u start to do compulsions to act on that so called danger which makes ur amigdila think that it’s actually serious and true so it fires up and starts to send more of the same thoughts and the cycle keeps happening again and again

Hi anonymous0727, yes, absolutely. Trying to tell to the difference between intrusive thoughts and your “real” thoughts can be one of the most difficult things about OCD. Intrusive thoughts can be completely out of left field and be totally out of character, or could be similar to your normal thoughts but twisted slightly or amplified in intensity. If they didn’t seem real or trouble you, than OCD wouldn’t be a problem for us. I’ve had some pretty terrible intrusive thoughts about friends or loved ones, the thing to remember is that you are NOT your intrusive thoughts. You can’t choose what they are or when they occur, only how you react to them. As hard as it seems, the best thing to do is to try not to not focus on them when they occur, but rather let them pop in and then back out of your head again. The more you focus on them or try to actively prove/disprove them, the more weight they have to you and the more anxiety/doubt they will cause you. Intrusive thoughts do not define you, they are just thoughts. Bad intrusive thoughts do not make you a bad person, if that were true you wouldn’t be upset about having them. Stay strong and hang in there.

If it makes u feel upset or uncomfortable then it’s an intrusive thought.

@zulemasoriano Yeah if you’re worrying that you’re a bad person you’re not a bad person. Bad people don’t care that their bad people yknoww. And The fact that you wonder whether you really believe in your thought, proves that that you don’t believe in it. I don’t know if that helps 😅
