Yes, I currently take 300MG of Zoloft for my Harm OCD. I started off at 200MG, but my dosage was upped. I believe 300MG is the max. However, I am not 100% certain on that, but your psychiatrist would be able to confirm that information. I take it in the AM in conjunction with other medications as well, but those are now going to be taken at night instead. Zoloft definitely does help, but it’s unfortunately not a 100% cure. Other medication in addition too and/or ERP therapy will most likely be needed. Hopefully you find this helpful. Sending love, compassion and support against the monster and battling the beast that is OCD 💌

Thanks. I’m beginning to think that the more I know about this condition the spacier I get which is a bad thing. It’s like too much for me to handle but I need to accept it. I don’t know how but I have to so I can work on the treatment and be hopeful. Thanks again for sharing your experience. Stay well.

@Anonymous My pleasure. That’s actually just the opposite of the mindset you should be in because knowledge is key in general, but especially when it comes to this disorder. The more you know; the better you’ll be able to accept it first and foremost because that’s key, followed by moving forward with any/all treatment. Stay well as well!

I’m at about 150 mg of Zoloft right now and I would say that it really does help. I would recommend taking it in the morning though since it might cause some insomnia. Taking extended release melatonin at night will help as well. However, I’m not a professional so you should probably talk with your psychiatrist about medication.

Yes, it's been somewhat helpful for me. I currently take 100 mg, but I believe it can be taken up to 200 mg (dose often recommended for OCD). If it's something your doctor has suggested, I see no reason not to give it a shot.

That’s the dose I’m on. I’m still anxious and depressed though and yes still obsessed in thoughts.

@Anonymous How long have you taken it?

Thanks for the exchange. I really appreciate it.

I’ve taken it since November of this year. It was increased to 100mg a couple of weeks ago.

It can take awhile to take effect and can be upped to 200 mg which is often recommended for OCD anyway.

@Ben84 Scared to take it up more. The psych recommended to take Latuda with it but I’m also afraid to try that one. I read somewhere that adding mood stabilizer or anti-psychotic does not really help either.

@Anonymous I took Abilify (another anti-psychotic) with it for awhile. It definitely didn't hurt. Once you get adjusted with 100 mg, you could give 150 a try with your doctor's guidance. Aside from being a pain to deal with side effects, it's unlikely to cause problems worse than what you're already dealing with.

@Ben84 Ah. By the way, do you ever feel spaced out sometimes. Like you are out of it? Like you are in your surroundings but feel so distracted by your thoughts? I hate the feeling.

@Ben84 Also was the Abilify temporary, part of the med therapy?

@Anonymous I've felt that way before, but didn't associate it with the medication, but rather the result of anxiety and depression.

@Anonymous I'm no longer on Abilify. It was recommended after a stay in the hospital.

My OCD flared up last year and now I’ve been doing alot more mental review I cannot just distract myself. I think I’ve always had it and it worked for me and my career but all of a sudden it became too much since after I got professionally diagnosed early this year.

I am on 100 mg but I still have the thoughts and still get anxious over them. I feel like my current dose isn’t working for me and need to ask if I can up the dosage

I hear ya. Interestingly enough my anxious thoughts come to me during the daytime but at nighttime, no matter how I try to come up with a worry, it doesn’t go through. It’s like my brain just shut down. The worst is I have both depression and OCD. I want my old life back 😩😫😢

Good morning to all. I have OCD and have had it since high school. However, I was not formed diagnosed until 2003, when I was 45 . I have a psychiatrist and Licensed therapist, and have been on Zoloft/sertraline ever since. Currently I have to have cataract surgery in a few weeks and I am very anxious about the whole thing. Of course this has been a trigger for my OCD and dealing with it the best I can. Any thoughts ?

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I was diagnosed with OCD just a couple of months ago and have been doing some reading and other research to try and understand the disorder. With this, I have been actively seeing a great therapist who has been helpful to build tools to deal with my intrusive thoughts ( contamination OCD is my worst theme). Do help learn to deal with the compulsions, I start on Sertraline or “Zoloft” I believe since November 2024. Currently I’m on 50mg and have been doing this for just over a month. My question for those who are also taking Sertraline and it has been successful, how do you know it has really provided a benefit and how long did it take to get there? I sometimes feel the medication works, and sometimes I feel it doesn’t (maybe that’s my OCD trying to mess with things). Thanks!
