@Braday Feel you. Recently friends ask me about my objectives for 2022. All.of them.said some material things and financial bullshit. I answered "to full laugh out of my heart" (without ocd thoughts). Its such an easy wish for the rest but for ocd sufferers a.big thing i guess

@Markus That’s a great point! 2022 started rough for me. As I’m scared of health issues I came up with covid today. My goal is to be thankful for everyone and everyday

@Markus Ikr I’m a teen and it feels weird to be going through all these things plus OCD. My 2022 resolution is to stop comparing myself and just do me!!👍

Treat now and as early as.possible. the brain still develops in your age in puberty. Maybe with help you can avoid to have it as an adult.later

At 12 years and 364 days around 12:26, the day before my 13th birthday. I remember exactly when it started because that was the day when I started to exhibit and feel the distress, uncertainy, anxiety and rumination that is the hallmark of ocd. I would say that I’ve had obsessive behaviors even before that day since even as a child I would repeat words and phrase in my head over and over again for fear of forgetting them.

Same like you. I remember need to go stairs up and down 10.times as a child or urge looking several times under my bed before stress relieves to be able to sleep. Then so ocd starts with puberty same like you

@Markus I developed soocd when I was 20 and it’s been a complete nightmare. Hardest theme out there no doubt. Can’t imagine having it since puberty. I wish you all the best friend.

I was 7 or 8 I think. Started out classically. Lots of physical checking in secret after parents were in bed.

I had this checking as well same age. Like 5 times if under bed is fine etc. Do You think it showed already a tendency in ocd ?
- Date posted

@Markus I would get out of bed to check locks and would have to make sure I didn’t make any noise in doing it. If the floor creaked I’d have to get back in bed and start it all over. I would pray compulsively. I’d have to pray the right way and if I messed up I’d have to start all over. It would go on for hours. I knew then it was abnormal but can you believe I didn’t see it as ocd until a few months ago, after I was diagnosed? It’s shocking to me now to realize now how long I’ve been sick with this. I am still discovering different ways it’s pervaded my life. What about you?

@Markus And yes, I do think it was ocd.

I see lots of people saying early 20s but that was a dormant period for me. There’s definitely a pattern I have see in reading about it here and elsewhere. Around ages 5-8 and then again around ages 12-15 and again around 20-25. I wonder if there is research into this?

One of my first memories of OCD was from when I was about 8-12 years old. I’ve always struggled with sleeping and prone to twisting and turning due to my brain going like 🧠 🗣️🗣️🗣️ Anyways once I couldn’t sleep and got out of bed one of my parents said, with compassion, ”oh it’s so late, why are you awake it’s school tomorrow” and when they followed me to my room I saw that the time was 22:22 and I felt a really scary feeling in my chest (today I know it was anxiety) and from that day on the time 22:22 🕰️ followed me for years. I was twisting and turning and feeling anxious about my digital clock (I’m a 90s girly) turning 22:22. I could get issues taking deep breaths, being sweaty, uncomfortable and scared and feeling like ”ITS SOON 22:22 AND WHEN THE TIME PASSES IT WILL BE TOO LATE”. I never really understood exactly what was going to be ”too late” but I’m guessing it was getting too little sleep absolutely blown out of proportion. As soon it passed 22:22 it was all good and I could fall asleep 😴 I don’t struggle with those numbers today instead I smile and feel compassionate towards little me. Still OCD sucks, I still struggle with sleep times to times and do have some magical thinking but the big difference is that I logically know that it’s not real even if it emotionally sometimes feel that way. Take care out there. If this made you feel less lonely, wanna share your first memories of OCD? ❤️

So I have been trying to work out over the past 5 years where my OCD come from and have began to realise that ruminating on where it comes from is actually a compulsion in itself. I believe mine come from having a low self esteem and a lot of stress in my life at that time. I then attended talking therapy to try and understand my feelings and intrusive thoughts and all this did was fuel the OCD further because trying to assign meaning to the thoughts is actually the opposite of what we should do. Does anyone else feel like they know what triggered there OCD?
