think it could be a way to ease into it

My Dr said it’s ok to do but it’s such a small dose. She said it was fine if that’s what made me most comfortable. I have a fear of medication side effects and also have emetephobia so I struggle with taking any medication.

I did the same thing with Prozac but still had side effects. But I’m starting on Lexapro at 5 mg now and easing up and knock on wood I haven’t had any so far.

Even if you do have side effects, most will subside within a couple weeks.

Thanks. My issue is that I have a phobia of side effects and also emetephobia. Glad you’re having good luck on 5mg of lexapro. How long have you been on it? And you’re easing up on the dosage?

About a week and a half on the Lexapro. I think I’m going to up it to 10 mg as long as the dr is ok with it since I’m not experiencing any side effects. With the others (I have tried Paxil and Prozac), I felt them pretty quickly.

I’m glad you’re doing well with that. I was on Paxil about 20 years ago and had some side effects with that at 20mg to start! I just took my fists quarter of lexapro. I know it’s probably silly to start so small (1.25mg) but if it gets me started and helps me to feel more comfortable in doing so then I’m ok with that. Hope the increase goes well. Happy you’re doing great! My best friend started with 10mg lexapro and the only side effect she had was excessive yawning for a while but then that subsided.

@ChefT Not silly at all! I did that with the Prozac in the tiniest increments because I was so scared and still had a lot of side effects so I increased very slowly. The dr said she didn’t think I would have the same issues with Lexapro so 5 was the lowest she started me on with this one. I guess they’re all different!

@OCDMM From what I’ve heard lexapro is pretty well tolerated. But again we’re all different. I’ve done ok with todays dose so far. You’re a week in a half on lexapro with no side effects, that’s great.

I am in a similar situation with the fear of medication. It seems to be very common amongst OCD sufferers. There is nothing silly about titrating up to a therapeutic dose if it means it will ultimately help you recover in the long term. My psychiatrist recommended the same plan for me, however I am yet to start my medication due to my fear. The most important thing is that you’ve weighed up the benefits vs your current situation and you’re willing to give it a try. It’s always tricky with meds. I wish you all the luck and I think you’re incredibly brave ❤️

Thank you. It’s very very hard. I’m already worrying about tomorrows dose and trying not to Google to see if side effects are worse as the days go on. But I did take the first step. You can do it too. And you will. I’ve looked at the medication sitting on my counter for two weeks before taking. Step one wa picking it up. The cutting it into pieces. I then made a plan to start today and to do it by 10am. When the time came I just took it and didn’t spend time thinking about it. I did, however, have anxiety afterwards and sporadically throughout the day and now, like I said, anticipating tomorrow. I think we’re all brave. We’re all here, it’s a step. We’re all working toward a common goal. You will get there too. I know it.

Hi everyone, I’m 23 and have been on Zoloft since I was 16. For the past couple months I’ve been having panic attacks more and I’m sick of feeling like a zombie everyday. My boyfriend said I’m very sad and unhappy then when I first met him 2 years ago…. He thinks it’s the medicine. Throughout the years I have upped and lowered my medication, but now, I feel as though it’s not helping. Either it was too much where I didn’t feel emotions at all like very scary stuff or it wasn’t enough to help me. I was given 5mg of Lexapro to try…. I’m scared to take it. All I know is how Zoloft is. I don’t want to go crazy on it, be allergic to it, etc. I feel like I’m going to trip myself out when I take it and not actually feel the difference. I could really use some positive feedback I really just want to be a normal human😭

I’m a few days in on starting 10 mg of Prozac, my anxiety has definitely been heightened and it’s making it really hard for me to eat :( also sleep has been very hard when the intrusive thoughts fill my head. I want to stick with the medication and give it a good shot as I know it could really help me. Any suggestions or some encouragement to help me get through this time

Can people please share their experiences on very low dose medications for their OCD? Maybe ones that have worked well with little side effects? Anything is helpful & thank you
