Hello did you have harm ocd toward family members
- Date posted

Yes indeedy, I did. But avoiding them only makes it worse. When you have a harmful thoughts against them, donāt run away or fight it. Do the opposite.

@Nica I feel like im at the point where I donāt know wether or not this is ocd. Like I stay around them and stuff but at the same time I feel like my thoughts arenāt normal the urges that go with them arenāt normal either

@Anonymous Maybe, maybe not. You canāt let your thoughts push you away from things you want to do or people you care about. Thatās fueling the OCD fire and signaling to the brain that what itās currently doing is correct to to keep doing it.

How did you manage SO-OCD?

I stopped caring if I was no or a lesbian because thereās nothing wrong with that. After that realization and throwing up my hands to āmaybe, maybe notā it disappeared. I havenāt had an issue with it for a decade now.

What can your therapy do for ROCD?
- Date posted
- 3y
It helps you lessen your reaction to thoughts regarding ROCD and gives you coping mechanisms skills whenever they pop up.

Or the obsessing with the fact that I have ocd an anxiety.. an what am I going to do to change my life for the better an move forward?

You sound like you need to get into ERP therapy as soon as you can. You have to learn coping mechanisms and the signs/symptoms of OCD so you donāt give into it and continue down the spiral of ruminating and obsessing, which makes your OCD only worse.

@Nica Iāve been doing erp for 5 months now.. so I was jus curious how you recovered from feeding the ruminating monster

@Nica Did you see my message about already starting erp therapy?
- Date posted

@12354 It took me 3 years. 5 months sounds fine. It all depends on the person and how much you WORK on getting better. Recovery wonāt be magically given to you.

@Nica Oh totally I hear you. But what helped you the most with obsessive thinking?

If you did ERP, how long did it take to start seeing improvement? Iām about to start formal erp with my therapist, but Iāve been practicing by myself as intrusive thoughts come up, and I feel like hell. Tons of guilt.

Any experience and/or tips on suicidal OCD?

Iāve always known I enjoy life even when I was passive suicidal due to childhood abuse. Thatās even tougher to deal with because I did try to Jill myself as a child. However, when I went through my trauma therapy, it got way better.

I havenāt done a Q&A in over a year (my bad) but I used to do these at least once a month. Work is slow today, so please send me any questions you have about OCD and Iāll answer them as best as I can. A little about me: Iāve been subclinical/recovered for going on 5 years and Iāve been on this app volunteering since 2019 in an unofficial capacityāIām not connected to the NOCD team, so I donāt have any badges. I did ERP treatment with my therapist in-person while I was also being treated for PTSD. I have OCD, PTSD, ADHD, depression, GAD, social anxiety, driving anxiety, and a few speech impediments.

Im new here so im not exactly sure what im supposed to be doing but my therapist recommended that I start using this platform. I have had OCD my whole life as does my mom and her parents, but I never had a formal diagnosis until about 5 years ago. Recently my OCD has been absolutely taking over my life and it is just so mentally exhausting. I know thereās nothing āwrongā with me but I really wish that I just didnāt have OCD. I really just want to be able to exist without all of these obsessions. Iāve seen a few posts from people just talking about experiences so if anyone has any tips on how best to use the platform that would be great! On a funnier note - Iām pretty open about my OCD and I mention it to a coworker and there response was āDo you really have that or is that just something you sayā. And my response was oh yeah no I really have it and it really impacts every minute of everyday in my life and they were just like š¶

Some background: Iām a woman in my 30s whoās been struggling to find the right diagnosis for years. Since 2022, Iāve had multiple psych hospital stays, and with each stay came a different diagnosis and different sets of medications: Bipolar II, CPTSD, MDD with psychotic features, āhigh functioning BPD,ā and most recently, Schizoaffective Disorder (depressive type). Before all of that happened, I had been seeing a therapist for CPTSD and AuDHD traits for 2 years, but after they left the practice, I struggled to find someone I trusted again. Most of my breakdowns happened during my last relationship. Looking back, I was in survival mode with them, leaving who *I* am behind. I got to the point where I started doubting my own reality from the abuse. This eventually added up and landed me in my first episode of psychosis. That combined with my attempts is what got me my schizoaffective diagnosis. After finally leaving that relationship 1.5 years ago, Iāve slowly rebuilt my life: new town, new job, new friends. Many of my old symptoms (major ones) havenāt returned, which makes me believe I may have been misdiagnosed due to reliving past childhood trauma and stress responses from the abuse. Through all of this, Iāve felt like nothing ever truly fit. I journal, I reflect, I replay the recordings and Iāve even watched old vlogs āthe puzzle pieces still donāt come together. Itās left me feeling like Iāll never really know whatās going on, and Iāve started to fear that my diagnoses will just keep stacking up without ever leading to effective treatment. Recently, I opened up to a friend about this. She mentioned that her neighbor went through something similar not exactly like me but she thought it would give me a starting pointāmultiple diagnoses that never felt rightāuntil a new doctor finally identified it as OCD. That one diagnosis changed everything for her. It made me realize I really donāt know much about OCD beyond the stereotypes. I didnāt know OCD could involve intrusive thoughts, rumination, or mental compulsions. My friend encouraged me to look into it, especially as I start searching for a new therapist. Facebook and Google lead me here⦠So now Iām wondering: could OCD be a better explanation for what Iāve been experiencing all these years? Questions for the community: 1. What steps did you take to find out if OCD was what you were dealing with? 2. If you had a long history of misdiagnoses, how did you finally find a clinician who got it right? 3. How did you advocate for yourself when people dismissed your concerns? 4. Is there anything you wish you had done earlier in your OCD journey? Thank you so much if you made it this far. Iām really grateful for this space and just want to start finding answers and the right kind of help.
