Hello did you have harm ocd toward family members
- Date posted
- 3y
Yes indeedy, I did. But avoiding them only makes it worse. When you have a harmful thoughts against them, donāt run away or fight it. Do the opposite.

@Nica I feel like im at the point where I donāt know wether or not this is ocd. Like I stay around them and stuff but at the same time I feel like my thoughts arenāt normal the urges that go with them arenāt normal either

@Anonymous Maybe, maybe not. You canāt let your thoughts push you away from things you want to do or people you care about. Thatās fueling the OCD fire and signaling to the brain that what itās currently doing is correct to to keep doing it.

I stopped caring if I was no or a lesbian because thereās nothing wrong with that. After that realization and throwing up my hands to āmaybe, maybe notā it disappeared. I havenāt had an issue with it for a decade now.

What can your therapy do for ROCD?
- Date posted
- 3y
It helps you lessen your reaction to thoughts regarding ROCD and gives you coping mechanisms skills whenever they pop up.

Or the obsessing with the fact that I have ocd an anxiety.. an what am I going to do to change my life for the better an move forward?

You sound like you need to get into ERP therapy as soon as you can. You have to learn coping mechanisms and the signs/symptoms of OCD so you donāt give into it and continue down the spiral of ruminating and obsessing, which makes your OCD only worse.

@Nica Iāve been doing erp for 5 months now.. so I was jus curious how you recovered from feeding the ruminating monster

@Nica Did you see my message about already starting erp therapy?
- Date posted

@12354 It took me 3 years. 5 months sounds fine. It all depends on the person and how much you WORK on getting better. Recovery wonāt be magically given to you.

@Nica Oh totally I hear you. But what helped you the most with obsessive thinking?

If you did ERP, how long did it take to start seeing improvement? Iām about to start formal erp with my therapist, but Iāve been practicing by myself as intrusive thoughts come up, and I feel like hell. Tons of guilt.

Any experience and/or tips on suicidal OCD?

Iāve always known I enjoy life even when I was passive suicidal due to childhood abuse. Thatās even tougher to deal with because I did try to Jill myself as a child. However, when I went through my trauma therapy, it got way better.

Hi everyone! My name is Tara, Iām a therapist here at NOCD. Before becoming a therapist, I worked various jobs in arts, textiles, prop styling, I worked in restaurants... I basically did what I could do with an undergrad in art living in Brooklyn, with a secret hope that I might someday pursue a career in mental health. Fun fact, I held onto that hope for 10 whole years before I decided to take a risk and apply to grad school! I wanted to become a therapist because I just knew that this was a field where my mind could work at its best and do the most good. Anyone else here with ADHD may understand. I simply cannot retain long term focus on something if I donāt absolutely love it, and I absolutely love this work. Having a job where my sole purpose is to connect with others and help them tap into their inner strength is an actual dream come true. I specifically love working with Exposure and Response Prevention and treating OCD, since the whole point of ERP is to show you youāre braver than you think you are. And it works so, so well. If you have a fear, and you think you ācanātā approach it, know that you most likely can. It might take some time to prove that to yourself, but with time and a steady dose of discomfort, youāll get there. Iām sure that ādiscomfortā part didnāt sound appealing but let me ask you this - does OCD make you feel uncomfortable? Why not put some of that discomfort to work, in your favor? If youāre struggling with OCD, or you think you might be, know that you probably already have what it takes to thrive in ERP. Youāre here. You recognized that you were struggling, you decided to find help, you downloaded the app, and you started reading through posts. Iām sure somewhere along the line, you felt at least a little uncomfortable, and you decided to take the next step anyway. Thatās ERP in a nutshell :) Please ask me anything about OCD, your current symptoms or ERP. Iāll be responding over the next 2 days to questions.

Have you ever had a thought so unsettling it stopped you in your tracks? Thatās how postpartum OCD started for me, triggered by my grandfatherās passing. After he died, a terrifying question popped into my headāWhat if Iām not a good person? From that moment, I became afraid of my own thoughts. When I had my daughter, a new fear took over: What if I could hurt her? I avoided being alone with her and constantly sought reassurance, but nothing eased the panicāuntil I found NOCD and realized I had OCD. Therapy was terrifying, but learning to face my fears instead of running from them changed everything. One day, when I was alone with my daughter, the thoughts came, and I simply responded, Maybe I could. Maybe I couldnāt, and moved on. Thatās when I knew I was getting better. OCD no longer controls my lifeāand if youāre struggling, know that recovery is possible. Iāll be live on the app around 6:00 PM CT answering any questions, so ask away!"
