I’ve gained quite a bit of weight on it. But I’ve been on lexapro for around 7 years now. One think I wish I would have done differently is assess how it makes me feel but try medication breaks with a psychiatrist to see how much it actually helps

Made me gain weight like crazy and lose energy. Eventually the psych had to add Wellbutrin for my weight and energy and then I eventually switched to Prozac which has been working better. However, everyone reacts to meds differently so it’s unpredictable how you will react to it. It could be the best med for u.

I’ve been worried about the weight gain. How does that work? Is it cause it increases our appetite or does it just chemically cause weight gain?

I’m so glad to hear that!!! I just started it this week. I’ve been doing 1/2 my 10 mg cause I was scared to take the full. But I’m wondering if I should take the full cause I’d hate for it to not be enough

@morgorreee I’m on 10mg my psychiatrist told me if we need to up the dose then we will, but for now 10mg is fine for me. Make sure you let your doc know how you feel. I was reading for OCD it takes a little more time. I hope it works out for you ❤️

I have taken 20mg of Lexapro off and on for over a year now and I am looking into switching to a different medication mostly because it’s one of the milder anxiety/antidepressants and sometimes I feel like it doesn’t work. Another reason I decided on switching is because it can lower your sex drive and I feel like I already have a very low sex drive and don’t want it to get even lower. But of course, it varies person to person. I’ve heard others say they love it and it works well for them! ❤️🩹

Dang I feel that! I’m worried about my libido as well cause mine is basically non existent and has been even before my ocd became a thing 😅 I wonder if there’s a way to fix that by seeing a gyno or something. I’ve been curious about it

I took Zoloft for about 7 months. I started on 10mg and got up to 100 mg. When I was under 50mg I pyshically felt great. After 50mg I had consistent side effects (stomach pain, insomnia). Zoloft would work for awhile and then would quit. Now I'm taking 100mg of fluvoxamoine and I hate it. I got more suicidal. With regards to OCD, I can't really tell if it's working bc I constantly have stomach pain and constipation, so my mind hates the pill. Honestly, I don't think it is helping bc I get fixated on hating this pill, what if the pill doesn't work, my suicidal thoughts stem from me fixating on topics, and fixated on my new psychiatrist that prescribed it. I am starting to get really down that it will require hell before finding the right medicine for me.

Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.

Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?

I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
