Does anyone experience palpitations during anxiety ? Feels like your heart kinda skips a beat or there’s a flutter in your chest ?? I’ve have EKGs that were normal but they feel so weird as scary but it’s usually when I’m anxious.
Yes!!! My heart feels like it skips or that it's irregular/ thumping really hard
Have you had checked it out ? Is there anything that helps you? Literally feels like my heart is going to stop 😵💫
@NrseKris Yup I had a ekg too, nothing was wrong. Anxiety definitely does cause your heart to feel weird at times
Oh yeah for sure. When I would go in to panic episodes with OCD and anxiety stuff I would constantly feel my heart flutter during it
That happening to me right now and I work with doctors I always wana run to them and have them listen to my heart or check my pulse but I know that can be a compulsion I’ve done it several times at work and my heart was okay it’s embarrassing
@NrseKris OMG same here!! They put an EKG on me and everything and everything came back normal. It’s embarassing, but we at least check on ourselves! :)
The sensation of your heart ‘skipping a beat’ is completely normal with anxiety! My doctor told me it’s not because my heart was actually skipping a beat, it was the sensation of my chest muscle spasming in response to my hyper fixation on my chest. This is certainly the case for you given your EKG came back normal!
I’ve had this for years, I have something called Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVC’s) that are caused from anxiety, I’ve seen a cardiologist and they did an Echo, all was normal, he said that they are very common in people with anxiety and are uncomfortable but not concerning. You’re not too young to see a cardiologist, If it gives you peace of mind! I was 29 when I saw my cardiologist, I’m 36 now and still have the PVC’s
Do you need medication for them ?
@NrseKris Some people are put on beta blockers but I chose not to, I don’t like taking meds and my body does not do well with side effects, people only usually take them for the purpose of calming them down, they aren’t dangerous
@mamato3 What about meds for anxiety have you ever tried any ? I got prescribed some but scared to start
@NrseKris Same!! I was prescribed Zoloft and I’ve been sitting on them for months, I’m nervous to take them! I know I should and so many people I’ve talked to said it changed their life for the better…I’m just afraid of side effects :(
@mamato3 I was prescribed lexapro and the reviews on drugs.com are very positive but then again there are those few people with bad side affects . They’re just sitting in my medicine cabinet cus I’m scared but what if it changes my life for the better 😭ugh
Heart palpitations / skips with normal EKGs can definitely be caused by anxiety. Going through one of my worst episodes in college I was anxious 24/7 and had a lot of trouble sleeping. Was sure they'd find something on EKG and was completely normal. Helped me to sleep on my side, and train my mind to be able to focus on other things.
Even with normal EKGs I can’t convince myself I’m okay, I want to see a cardiologist and have a holter monitor and all that other testing . The docs have told me I’m too young to have a random serious heart problem but that doesn’t ease my mind either
I had an allergic reaction to medicine 2 years ago that caused heart palpitations. I went to the ER and they did ECG and blood tests. All were normal. Over the past 2 years it's caused major anxiety and I've been to the ER several times..3 more ECGs and more blood tests. All showing my heart is fine. Should I trust that if I had a heart problem it would show and believe in my doctors? If I had a heart problem it would show? Want to be sure it's anxiety and not a heart problem.
I just had a really awful chest pain that felt like my chest was exploding and im really terrified. I feel like maybe it was a heart attack but idk. I've had many ekgs and a chest x ray and they don't find anything wrong with me. Idk what this means anymore im so sick of being scared that ill die. Can anyone relate at all? It comes out of nowhere
I have gotten maybe about 8 EKG’s within the lest 2 years? I’ve also gotten an echo done, and I got a heart monitor to track my heart over the course of maybe 2 weeks, back last year. Even though I have been to the emergency room so many times because of panic attacks that I thought were heart attacks, and went with a Cardiologist I still obsess and worry. I always think that I am going to develop some kind of heart problem after getting the tests done. Like if they’re just suddenly going to appear/my heart will suddenly have an issue. I especially get nervous when the pain is in the center of my chest + I get a tight feeling like I have pressure on my chest and can’t breathe completely. Please someone share their experience of how they controlled their health anxiety, especially if it’s related to this.
