Does anyone have a fear of depression or not sure if they are or not and get really scared of it ? I’m so scared of getting stuck in it or having “treatment resistant depression” where I can’t get help, has anyone dealt with this ?? I always think depressed people wana hurt themselves so it scares me
Ive had depression since I was a teenager and dont have suicidal thoughts really. Im more irritable, disinterested and generally a little sad.

i have depression and have had it since i was 12 (i’m 31). it comes and goes in waves and my OCD makes it worse. it’s definitely something that is manageable though, more so than OCD (for me at least).
Thank you for sharing , what helps you manage it or feel better ? My therapist (not from NOCD) yelled at me today saying I need to get over and accept that I need medication or I won’t get better and that made me feel even worse
I completely agree. My ocd is much more of an issue.
@Jigjon99 Maybe it’s my ocd that’s giving me a fear of depression getting worse like severe or suicidal that’s so scary
@NrseKris first off, i am so sorry your therapist yelled at you and spoke to you in that matter. i can totally see why that would trigger you and make you feel worse. i’ve been treated poorly by therapists in the past so i deeply empathize with you. as for what has helped me with depression, it has varied. from 12-17 i was on prozac which i believed helped me but i was also actively drinking/using drugs and wasn’t in consistent supportive therapy. my early 20’s were probably the best for me in the sense that my depression was well managed and i had lots of great days/positive times, i was very active, had a good group of friends and a supportive therapist. i struggled throughout my 20’s with managing my depression in healthy ways but it was tolerable - i stopped going to therapy which i feel looking back really made my depression worse. it wasn’t until my OCD came back around 28 and that triggered my depression and i sought therapy again. when i’m experiencing depression i’m very unmotivated, apathetic and just want to be left alone. i’m back on prozac and starting ERP. i don’t know if any of this info helped, depression can be so different based on the individual. the best advice i can give you is to keep doing the things you love to do, whatever hobby it may be, even if you’re in a depressive state and not enjoying it as much or at all, keep doing it. stay close to the things that matter to you even when you feel like they don’t. 💗💗
@butterfly Thank you for your response. I guess I’m scared of depression or ocd taking over and I lose control or something , I’m scared to have panic attacks while depressed cus I’m afraid I’ll do something crazy like hurt myself but I think those are all just fears

Quite possibly. I know that my depression fuels my ocd and vis versa.
What helps you in an intense moment
I’m not sure if it’s what I’m supposed to do but distraction is my best tool. I’m a big DIY guy so I’ll get into some project around the house.
does anyone else have an intense fear of developing schizophrenia or psychosis. This has been a really heavy theme for me as well. I’m constantly checking to see if I have symptoms or if I’m gonna go crazy or develop these. it’s so scary.
I'm really afraid to say that and the reason might be because of how depression is described to us. And at this point I dont know what is depression. I don't think feeling down is depression. Or sometimes feeling like things doesnt go as you want and you dont know what to do. Maybe it is, I can't tell it cause if i say im depressed in these situations it makes the situation worse, I feel like I put more weight on me. I know its common for depressed people to be ashamed that they are depressed and that might be my case too but as I said, many times I feel like I shouldnt call it depression, just feeling low or things has been stressful and it made me mentaly tired. I imagine depression as a different thing, i believe i was depressed before,because of ocd and i wasnt able to deal with my emotions, and sometimes I spin about that too cause again depression is presented differently in social media and by therapists too. So everytime i feel down i spin about if im depressed, afraid of depression cause I see it as a really bad thing.
I’ve never been diagnosed with OCD, but I relate so much to what people here are going through. I used to think it was just anxiety, and I felt like I could handle that. But lately I’ve been spiraling—constantly afraid that what I’m feeling is something worse, like psychosis or losing control of my mind. I feel so detached and scared, and I just want peace again. I have anxiety doing the smallest things, like the thought of waking up everyday and even eating give me straight up panic. I am afraid all the time, it’s paralyzing. And a lot of people say someone with psychosis wouldn’t worry that they’re in it, but then I convince myself I’ve been in it this whole time, and haven’t known, and that maybe I’ve been doing weird stuff. Idk. I also get really scared of labels. Even the idea of OCD makes me feel like I’ll never get better or like I’ll be stuck like this forever. I just want to be okay. If anyone has felt this way—confused, overwhelmed, or scared of what’s happening in their mind—I’d really appreciate any support or encouragement.
