I am Mitchell's mom..

My son suffered a brain injury after HS football and his attempt to self medicate in 2016. We are winning now, however he is still not talking. Mitchell is now showing severe OCD. All our therapist now see the intense intrusive thoughts. We feel this is why he's not able to get full sentences or thoughts out. As a mom, I am looking for others to help me understand how best to help my son. And myself understand.. Thank you for this group.

I too have suffered a TBi in my early sixties. I had some Ocd tendencies growing up but never bothered me. After the TBI the Ocd became very severe with severe intrusive thoughts. The damage takes a long time to repair but it does that is why.you are starting to see the wins. One good thing the brain does heal and your son being young is a great help. Hang in there I know it is and has been hard but I promise it will better.How lucky he is to have your support.

I just want to say that you guys are really wonderful, supportive parents in your desire to help your son so proactively, and in your presence here. No matter what his journey will be, with your care and proactiveness, I have confidence that he will overcome many of the struggles he is dealing with now- therapy with NOCD for me personally has been really helpful, and something I’ve learned from it is to have patience, and hold into hope that progress can be around the corner and show up in ways in our day to day life that may seem “small” but are actually signs of progress! Eventually it starts to add up! It doesn’t happen overnight, but ERP truly works.
