I've had a lot of concerns about my cardiovascular system and sensations relating to it. You might want to check out videos about health anxiety by Paige Pradko.

I know that health anxiety can be really tough. But If you do ERP and response prevention with a therapist you trust, it should get easier over time. When you reduce reassurance seeking, you should eventually become less emotionally dependent on it.

@patricia12 Several times a day. anytime I do something that makes my heart speed up a little bit, I panic which’s makes my heart palpatate. it is very uncomfortable but it can’t kill you.

@patricia12 What things do you avoid to prevent it from speeding up?

@Anonymous I don’t do anything because it doesn’t last enough for me to even breath … it is very short just a few seconds

@patricia12 do you mean you avoid everything?

There was a time when I was having more than one EKG per year. Paige Pradko says that it's best not to get too many medical tests for reassurance if your doctor doesn't think they are called for.

@Songbird27 It’s sooo frustrating because when it has to do with your health sometimes the thoughts get stronger and you can’t ignore it or “just feel the anxiety”

@patricia12 I know how hard it could be to ignore things that seem to be relevant to your health. The OCD makes you feel like you have to pay attention and clear up uncertainty, but overcoming OCD is probably better for your overall health and definitely for your overall quality of life.

I had an allergic reaction to medicine 2 years ago that caused heart palpitations. I went to the ER and they did ECG and blood tests. All were normal. Over the past 2 years it's caused major anxiety and I've been to the ER several times..3 more ECGs and more blood tests. All showing my heart is fine. Should I trust that if I had a heart problem it would show and believe in my doctors? If I had a heart problem it would show? Want to be sure it's anxiety and not a heart problem.

I went from intrusive thoughts of hurting people, thinking I did horrible things and not remembering it like running people over with my car etc, to my brain trying to convince me I that I had split personality disorder to now health anxiety. The intrusive thoughts weren’t as bad as this. I’ll get physical symptoms like my heart racing, chest pain, can’t swallow. It’s been causing panic attacks but I’m constantly scared I’m dying. If my mole looks like it changed I freak out and think I have cancer. I had to get a stethoscope to listen to my heartbeat to make sure I don’t have an aortic aneurysm to buying a Fitbit to constantly check my pulse. I went to the ER bc I thought I was dying and now I’m paying a 2 thousand dollar bill when they say my heart is fine. It’s just exhausting.

I just had a really awful chest pain that felt like my chest was exploding and im really terrified. I feel like maybe it was a heart attack but idk. I've had many ekgs and a chest x ray and they don't find anything wrong with me. Idk what this means anymore im so sick of being scared that ill die. Can anyone relate at all? It comes out of nowhere
