“People often commit suicide when they come off them” is a ridiculous thing to say. Often? Like most people? I think you should do your research. Also adderall is completely different. I am on the lowest dose of Ritalin and it’s been deemed the safest stimulant medication. I have never taken adderall. I only take ritalin when needed and notice almost no effects aside from being able to focus and be more motivated. Also the SSRI I’m taking is temporary but has been incredibly helpful. I completely agree with making lifestyle changes and seeing a therapist. I’m usually the one saying don’t depend on medication but sometimes it can be helpful when people are really in need. Not something to be depended upon unless absolutely necessary. But you should be careful not to say irresponsible things and scare people.

I'm with fluoxetine 80mg for my ocd and aripiprazole 10 mg. Also with methylphenidate as needed, it works great with fluoxetine.

I’m on 10 mg Ritalin for ADD and 20 mg Prozac for OCD and it’s working for me. I think high doses of SSRI’s and ADD stimulants can put you at risk for Seratonin syndrome? But my dr said these medications actually compliment each other and my doses are low. If you aren’t on an SSRI then I don’t know. I always found Ritalin helped me before Prozac and I wouldn’t get more anxious but it rather made me feel more focused and motivated but everyone is different.

Stimulants are dangerous?

I disagree. My father is a physician and he takes Ritalin and sometimes concerta for his ADD.

I’m on lexapro and focalin and doing fine on them. I just have an issue where the coming down from my focalin is too hard to where I don’t take it. I’m looking to talk to my psychiatrist about changing to Ritalin or concerts next time I see her

I plan on becoming a psychiatrist actually, so I already have a good understanding of all the options. Just looking for other’s experiences

Also, I agree that many psychiatrists can prescribe medication too freely, that’s why I had my therapist recommended a good psychiatrist for me and they work together to get the right dosage

Yes I use the 30mg capsules and the 10mg instant release tablet as needed, to augment the effect

I take 80 mg of fluoxetine and I take 20 mg of Ritalin a day for ADD. Stimulants do worsen OCD symptoms in many people and cause anxiety but not in everyone. I think all stimulants would cause a level of anxiety but once you get used to them, it won’t affect you as much. Be very careful to take the medication as prescribed and tell your doctor if you’re experiencing bad anxiety. Stimulants are very addictive so don’t take more than prescribed, it can lead to very bad episodes as well.

At some point in recovery journey I was prescribed a medication for ADHD it helped reduce the speed and frequency of the obsessions. Medication is trial and error it can take time till you find the right combo.

I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse

Hey everyone, I’m curious if anyone here is managing their OCD without SSRIs. I’ve personally struggled with side effects in the past such as low libido and emotional numbness. I have plans to have a family and kids in the future, so SSRIs don’t feel like a long-term solution for me—I’m especially afraid of PSSD (post-SSRI sexual dysfunction). Are any of you managing OCD with alternatives like Wellbutrin, SNRIs, Adderall, NAC, Myo-inositol or any other supplements. Even approaches like the ketogenic diet or other functional methods? I read some studies about how Keto diet has helped some people put their OCD in remission. I’d love to hear what’s actually working for you. Trigger Warning: Sometimes hearing that people can’t manage OCD without SSRIs can be discouraging, but I’m staying hopeful that there are sustainable alternatives out there. Thanks in advance for sharing.
