Do yall think derealization can develop to depersonalization? Cause its one thing for me to feel like im in a dream but its another for me to not even recognize myself… thats scarier to me. Today i came to a new location for my bfs family party so i dont know anyone except my bf and its a new town and i kept feeling like is this really happening rn…. Lol ugh i just wish i never had experienced derealization.

Both DP & DR are a result of severe anxiety where the brain goes auto pilot to protect itself when it can’t deal with the anxiety anymore ! So if you treat the anxiety you’ll find that both will slowly fade away
Wow this thread is so helpful! I have been dealing with DPDR since I was around 7 years old. It has been so scary for me, my whole life. Even explaining it to other therapists - I never got help until now with NOCD. I really appreciate you all sharing your stories
yep!! most people struggle with both dpdr, and some only get one. i had both, derealization came first and then the depersonalization and the depersonalization i still sometimes get
What do u do to make it go away?
i think it can. personally i experienced depersonalization first before i experienced derealization more often. meditating, focusing on bodily sensations, doing grounding techniques somehow help.
Just wondering what was the cause of your derealization ?
Honestly im not too sure, from the research ive done im going to say i stressed myself out so much without realizing it. I had been working remote & in my apt all the time, one day i was walking to get in the car & i felt VERY OFF like i was not connected to reality at all and i started to panic i never felt that before & googled right away what was goin on then found out about derealization. I went home and calmed down, it went away but it was so bad that since that day ive feared of getting that feeling again.

@_Anonymous1000 Yes i do, i always have but it would come & go. But ever since that day of derealization which was about 3 months ago, ive been having more anxiety/OCD then usual. So bad that i ended up finding this app from all the youtubing and googling ive been doing lol.

@ocdgurl Yea surprisingly have never really felt it and I have the worst anxiety. I mean sometimes I feel confused from anxiety
@_Anonymous1000 What ive felt is like its all a dream, you dont feel connected to people, things seem louder and it feels like youre going to pass out or go blind. Its like you can see but cant see. I wouldnt say dizzy id say more unbalanced. If you ever experience it you will know it. Theres just no other feeling like it. I guess the closest feeling for u to understand is like being very drowsy

@_Anonymous1000 For me it took like 10 min but for other people it could be days/weeks/months… thats what im scared of. Cause just experiencing those 10 min was the worst thing ever.
@ocdgurl Yea it’s scary to think but I we can’t worry about things till they happen just gotta stay in the moment and see what happens. Worst case scenario you get it and you recover down the line ! We are stronger than we think
@_Anonymous1000 Yes you are right, its best to learn to calm your anxiety now so u wont ever have to get to the point of derealization. So im really trying to figure it out now lol

I recently got diagnosed with OCD back in May of this year. What started it was a month prior, I took an SSRI which triggered an extremely intense couple of days due to panic attacks I’ve never had before. I’ve never had panic attacks but pretty intense anxiety. That’s when I started experiencing DPDR and hyper awareness. I’m good some days, but other days it’s so so hard. Especially because I have no one around me that understands. The DPDR and awareness of every feeling, thought, and just overall awareness of my existence gets really overwhelming. I feel like I’m losing my mind. It’s really hard to sit with my thoughts especially when they’re on a constant loop of every little thing I’m thinking and doing and on top of that feeling like I’m in a dream. I desperately just want to go back to how I was 4 months ago, but I know that’s just not possible right now. If anyone has experienced this and is doing much better now or even currently experiencing this please let me know! I need someone to relate to lol
