OCDtrying to tell me I do compulsions to seem cool
Do you sometimes do a compulsion and you think "Am I doing this just because I know that it's a part of OCD and I wanna have it because I wanna be cool or edgy?". I think of it every time I'm doing minor compulsions and it's so annoying!!
I think of this a lot too especially with depression and anxiety as well. I feel like I can’t suck it up, but when I do it gets worse. Honestly, my go-to right now is “do I even want to have OCD, and depression, and anxiety?” When my mind is clear, I know in my heart of hearts that in the long run, that I don’t really want this and I dread the compulsions but it’s how my brain got wired right now. I know I want this gone.
@SofiaLovedAndHealed So if your mind is telling you you just want to be cool, ask yourself if you really like going through what OCD is bringing you.

You're definitely not alone with OCD trying to instill doubt. That's the problem with people online who try to pretend they have a mental disorder. (And I should mention that you should be careful who you accuse of faking it) It can cause people who actually have them to question if they really do. Or cause other people to say they are faking it when they aren't, because so many people do it. It's really harmful. It's made me question myself early in my OCD diagnosis too so I completely understand what you mean.
I never accuse people of that and never assume that someone could be faking some illness, because I don't see why someone would want to do that. I struggle with thinking that way about myself, though.

This is really weird. Although i know i haven't touched anything contaminated but i still feel like what if maybe i have touched something and that i need to wash myself and other stuff. Although my inner self tells me not to do the compulsions and i also never feel good when i do the compulsions but my brain just doesnt stop thinking about it until i do it. Why we just do (compulsions) whatever our brain tells us to do although we dont even want to do? These are not even our own thoughts. They are just hallucinations
What are your compulsions in pocd or hocd? I want to see if I can relate, sometimes I do compulsions and doesn't even realise that they are compulsions until I learn abt it
The biggest compulsion of mine is reassurance-seeking. Sometimes I have the urge to ask really strange questions to my friends/co-workers etc. I get really annoyed sometimes at how creative my mind can be to come up with questions that doesn’t sound strange, in order to get reassurances. Currently I’m dealing with false memory OCD x relationship OCD so I’ll feel the urge to ask questions to friends to make sure I’ve not cheated before, E.g. hey have we ever gotten physically intimate before? What were we doing in April when we met? Did we really didn’t do anything inappropriate? which by itself sounds very odd to people. So my mind will try to come up with really creative stories to make my question sound as natural as possible so that I can get my reassurance/answer. (Ha. Nice try OCD) However, I know this is OCD and I know that I absolutely do not want to ask these questions (OCD is bullying me into asking) And it is the strangeness of these questions that is a motivation for me to not perform these compulsions. Because I don’t want to ruin my friendships or cause people to think I’m strange. But I have to admit, it’s not exactly the easiest to stop performing these compulsions. Has anyone experienced something similar?
