Any Advice for Issues with SSRIs for OCD and Depression?

My depression has been getting worse for about 4 months now. I was originally on Prozac for anxiety and OCD for about a year when I started having a depression episode about 4 months ago. Ever since then, I have been on and off of different SSRIs. I have tried Lexapro, Prozac (twice because my psychiatrist didn’t believe me when I said it wasn’t working), Trintellix, and now Viibryd. Nothing seems to work for me. Each one keeps giving me new or worse side effects and then I have to taper off again. Every week something new is going wrong. With my depression, I already don’t have a lot of energy and this process has completely drained me. I honestly don’t know what to do at this point. Should I keep trying new meds? Find a new psychiatrist? Or just try to cope on my own with therapy? I just feel lost. Any input is appreciated.

Are you doing ERP as well as medication? Medication alone won’t fix things, just help you handle anxiety as you work on getting better.

If your psychiatrist acts or says he doesn't believe you then I wouldn't hesitate to find a new one. The therapeutic relationship is very import in order to obtain the right outcomes . Do you feel comfortable with him?

Hi! I have also been on a TON of meds since 17 I am 23 now and still haven’t found one that works! sertraline is the only one I really had any side effects with which was nightmares and sweating I understand it’s a tiring process I am exhausted daily mentally and physically with my mental health. A psychiatrist can be helpful with meds for sure. ERP is probably the best to actually feel better and make it last. Good luck I know how awful it is

Hi! I’ve been on medication for ocd before. The two most used for ocd are Clomipramine and Luvox. I’ve tried both and stuck with Clomipramine. It’s made my physical Ocd (cleaning, germs) completely go away. As for my Pure Ocd it’s helped a lot but I still struggle with it.

Can you share how long you were on each medication? Perhaps they need more time in your system to feel them working. My Dr said it would be at least a month to feel any measurable difference.

I was on Prozac for a year, Lexapro for 4 weeks which caused me to fall and injure myself a lot (three falls in the last two weeks and I broke my hand). Then back on Prozac for 2 weeks which caused insatiable hunger and weight gain I couldn't live with anymore. Trintellix for two weeks which caused me to become incredibly itchy and my psych said it wouldn't go away. And I just started Viibryd 3 days ago, but I am just scared after everything I have been through.

I’ve tried several different medications and nothing has really worked for me either. I think I’m now considered “treatment resistant”. It’s really hard to deal with no meds working. I’m sorry you’re going through this!!!

I understand how you feel. Ive been searching for 10 years and im STILL doing med adjustments. Have you done a genetic test? These can show which meds your body would react well too, and which ones would give you side effects… just know youre not alone

Looking for insight on OCD/depression medications

(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?

Meds for OCD + Depression (Burnout), mood swings

As my current mental health has definitely reached a new low, I will probably soon start with medication. However, since I am actually somewhat afraid of the typical side effects of antidepressants and mood-stabilizers, I wanted to ask anyone who is or has been taking medication for OCD and or depression (and mood-swings). I recently got also diagnosed with depression (I’ll be further tested for burnout) and I also suffer from pretty intense mood swings and anxiety, both really draining the last bit of energy that I currently have. You can honestly be as specific and descriptive as you want since I don’t know any people in my personal life that take any medication for their mental health and I’m genuinely curious about side effects, how long the different meds take to kick in, etc. The only meds I’m familiar with are beta blockers, specifically bisoprolol but I want to switch to propranolol.

Feeling Alone & Hopeless

How many antidepressants have you all tried? I’m on my fourth and possibly transitioning to a fixity because the current one isn’t working. I’ve now done Genesight testing and I was prescribed Pristiq. It hasn’t reduced my anxiety at all. I was wondering if anyone else had to try many medications? And if so, did you eventually find one that worked?
