im not really sure if this belongs here but i don't know where else to go my boyfriend went to the doctor today to get some blood tests - cholesterol risk in family - and got told he had some irregularities with his liver from these and that he has to go back in for an ultrasound my dad's terminal cancer was discovered by an ultrasound and my boyfriend has similar symptoms to my dad in the beginning of them appearing (my dads was pancreatic which spread to the liver; pancreatic has no symptoms until it spreads) and now i'm terrified my boyfriend has the same cancer. the doctors had not even suggested cancer being on the table so i know im overthinking it but im so stressed and have no one to go to about it. im already virtually alone in college; literally everyone i care about is three hours away and the singular friend i have here is leaving next semester, i don't know how i can deal with this too

I’m so sorry your going through this! I would bring up your concerns to the doctor even though you feel your overthinking. Sometimes our gut is right and it sounds like a reasonable concern. Also I know how it feels to not have many friends in school.It’s hard but try to put your self out there. Something that helped me is when I’m feeling shy I always make a goal like “talk to 3 people today”. It doesn’t work instantly but overtime you’ll be closer to people. Hope this was helpful and I know you’ll get through this :)))

Hi ❤️, Something as traumatic as your father being diagnosed with terminal cancer (I'm so sorry to hear this) can most certainly be an OCD trigger. OCD attacks what we care about and value the most. Abs this feelings feel VERY real. The danger feels VERY real but there isn't a danger. I pray for good news from the Ultrasound and for your mind to be free and light throughout the uncertainty (what OCD feeds off of) of this waiting. You are so much more than your thoughts. I understand as my mother died due to pancreatic cancer. The good news is, even if it is true, it would be at the beginning stages. This means he could make life changes to mitigate the risk of it. Eating whole foods, being active, and supplementing vitamins can all stave off the risk. They also have the added benefit of increasing quality of living, even without the risk of cancer. You can act instead of living in fear, and your life will be better for it.

So, I’m spiralling right now. My dad was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma 5 months ago. Since then, my anxiety has been all over the place. 2 weeks ago I got a swollen node under my jaw, no other major symptoms. It was movable and painful to the touch. After a week of it not going away, I went to the GP and she said not to worry, it’s probably some kind of an infection, otherwise it wouldn’t be painful and it my throat wouldn’t be red. She gave me antibiotics. Now, I’m almost done with the antibiotics, and I can still feel the node. I think it decreased in size, but I’m really not sure and I keep touching it (it’s a compulsion, I know :( ), but it’s not painful anymore. I’m really anxious and my dad’s diagnosis is just making everything seem more real :( But, at the same time, the rational part of me knows I’m overreacting. Aah, this is so idiotic :(

Cancer OCD

I just became a father and now any experiencing pain in the abdomen. Immediately looked for symptoms online but I fear of it being Cancer. I don’t have any tests or diagnostics saying it’s cancer but I can’t stop looking up more info on the internet, I’m 33 and I know it’s rare for me to get it but I keep having extreme anxiety and panic attacks that keep me visiting the ER for further testing. I have followed up with doctors and they are running tests but I keep thinking I won’t be there for my family!

This doesn't belong here but I have nowhere else.

I know this doesn't belong here but I've tried posting on Reddit but received nothing. For context yes I'm a huge worrier about health and I'm probably a hypochondriac. So basically I'm convinced that I have cancer and I've been convinced of this for a long time. I have this hard lump under my rib that's been there for a long time. Also one of my toes is really inflamed and doesn't look normal. People will tell me just go have it checked out but I can't. I can't face what could come of it. People say if I'm that worried I could have it looked at by the doctor but I can't think of a single innocent explanation for the lump. I want to cry because at this point I feel like I've accepted something I don't even know because I'm convinced the chances of it being nothing bad are so low. The only way to know would be going to the doctor but I just can't. I'm so sorry for posting this here because it is not the place for this but I don't know what else to do. I can't describe the feeling of having convinced myself of something that could actually turn out to be true. It's crushing.
