“angel numbers” trigger ocd

this may be triggering for people who are religious or spiritual. i want to preface by saying i don’t think there’s anything wrong with believing in spirituality or angel numbers, i’m just talking about my experience with ocd. anyway, i seriously hate the idea of angel numbers. whenever i’m in the midst of obsessing and see repeating numbers i get so scared that it means what i’m obsessing about is actually true. because a lot of websites about angel numbers say that seeing them means you’re “on the right track” and i see them so often when i’m obsessing. it makes me worry that my fears are true.

@scenic thank you! i have gotten anxious at those type of videos too. it can be so triggering. it’s true that it’s good exposure but it just makes me so mad that people say things like that and don’t think about how triggering it is.

Yeah, our brains like repeating sequences, so you'll pick up on them any time they're around. I also used to have a problem with this and bought into the twin flame malarkey at the time. Boy was that a bad path. Those numbers don't mean anything, and the people pushing them are trying to profit from other people's unhappiness.

@MSR72 i feel like having ocd we are just really susceptible to this type of stuff. people don’t realize how damaging it can be.

I'm in a rock band, so I've struggled with this in the past with devil numbers! My band uses darker imagery sometimes (we have art of demons and angels and stuff), and often times at the venues we play at, I'll see 666 or other numbers on the wall. I really struggled because it felt like my obsessions were true, and I've had to realize that I don't have to take our imagery seriously, and numbers can just be numbers on a wall. you've got this, I know how hard it is and I still struggle with it on occasion

@Theocdguitarist thank you so much, i really understand that fear. i mostly only worry about it when i’m really in the midst of obsessing, because it makes me scared that my thoughts are actually true.

I know this was posted a while ago, but I could have written this myself. It’s been so triggering for me lately and of course the age old “is this really ocd or am I in denial?” I have rocd so it makes me feel like whenever I obsess about it the numbers are telling me I should leave😢

@Beth172 omg yes, i always notice it more when i’m obsessing. or if im not obsessing and i see it i still think like “was i thinking about something bad just now when I saw the angel number”. it’s just another thing ocd likes to cling on to 😐

i do have some spiritual beliefs especially with believing there’s some higher power or at least that my ancestors are with me and on my side. but things like angel numbers and manifesting are so triggering for me because i’m already scared i will manifest my thoughts and that they are true. i really advise people with ocd to stay away from things like that, unless it is helpful for you.

@scenic yes that’s true, i don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with these things. however i think people with ocd have to be careful with this type of stuff. and yes you’re right i think it can be a good exposure as well. i just wish that the way that people talked about angel numbers and manifesting wasn’t so harmful for ocd.

I am like that exactly, but I still prefer to see them sometimes. but sometimes I think that I am getting obssesed and I make myself to see some numbers or something. I understand how you are, I am like that too

Numbers And Words 🥴

Hey so my OCD makes me hate specific numbers and words, like I can’t say some words in case that specific word comes true and something bad happens. I then go and keep saying to myself everything is amazing,everything is amazing and it just tires me out.

OCD with posts and online activity

Does anyone experience ocd really bad with posts they see online? I just saw a post just now about someone who said they’ve come to terms with dying in their early twenties, and it popped up on my Instagram for you page and i panicked. I’m 20 myself and posts like this genuinely scare me because I always think “It’s a sign or there is a reason it’s popping up on my page.” Has anyone dealt with this before or had an instance like this? Especially with those posts that say if you don’t share or like it something bad will happen, it genuinely freaks me out and I love instagram.

Confusing OCD with instinct

Does anyone ever feel like you know you have OCD, but at the same time you think it might actually be you connecting to a higher consciousness or vibration that is trying to control your decisions so that the outcome does not turn out bad kind of like the butterfly effect. It drives me crazy because I know I’m conscious that it’s OCD but at the same time I overthink and feel like it might be a higher power trying to warn me that I’m not doing something right, like example; if I flip the trash can lid a couple more times it’s going to pervert something bad from happening and that why I’m sensing I’m not doing it right, because if I spent a little more time there and if I would have left earlier the outcome would’ve been different. Or say I just fight through it and choose to ignore it, but then I’ll carry that negativity/worry of not feeling like I did it right and will project it out into existence because the thought won’t leave my head and in a way your seeking it out into existence since you keep thinking about it, kind of like an affirmation?
