Thanks so much everyone for your warm welcome! It’s so nice to be surrounded by people who just ‘get it’! It warms my heart and soul to hear that my videos have helped y’all. I felt so very alone for soooooo many years like I was some alien or monster. My goal is to reach as many people in the world to help them feel less alone and validate they are not a ‘bad person’ just because of thoughts. So glad I’ve been able to reach you ❤️❤️❤️?

Hey there Addie976. When I get the Groinal syndrome, I choose to not give it any opportunity to feel relevant through emotion or logic. I recognize the feeling and even if it gives me a zing of anxiety, I choose to believe, maybe it’s real arousal or maybe it’s not! Engaging in trying to figure out its ‘meaning’ does nothing but make it stronger!

Hey y’all! To answer questions above: 1. depersonalization and derealization are just themes/symptoms of ocd. They should be treated the same as any symptom, let it be there, embrace it and try not to fight it. Definitely seek out an ERP therapist to help reduce symptoms! 2. Glad my response was helpful on the Groinal—and Dr. McGrath is so funny but can also be brutal! Haha I love him! 3. My YouTube channel is Chrissie Hodges/Pure OCD Advocate. 4. I’m doing the best I can with my recovery daily. Some days are tougher than others but mindfulness and embracing uncertainty helps me so much! 5. My suggestion on worrying that might hit you again/relapse is instead of fearing it, expect it! Relapse is inevitable, so if you are in the mindset that it’s gonna happen vs I hope it doesn’t happen, it will lessen the blow when it does. Be confident in the tools you have learned to manage it. ❤️❤️??

Chrissie! You are an inspiration. I’m “in recovery“ now, but also weaning off meds, and getting reminders of what more intense OCD feels like. I’ve learned so much about OCD, and someday I’d like to be an advocate too!

Hi chrissie. Nice to have you here. Watched all your videos. If made me understand OCD alot easier than anywhere else. I have secretly suffered in silence for many years. I've got an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow I'm hoping to try to tell them about it. But my anxiety gets so bad, I struggle to speak. So I've wrote it down just incase they will be understanding enough to read it. Rather than coax me to talk out loud. I'm petrified. But just want to say thank you for your videos. Your a breath of fresh air to us all.

Hey Chrissie! My name's Madeline. I worked with Dr. McGrath this past December. He showed me what I believe is your video on groinal sensations. It's the hardest OCD topic I've yet to overcome. It was hard but helpful to hear someone elses experience of it. Do you have any tips to getting past the horrendous thoughts that come along with it?

Thank you so much for responding! It's the weirdest one and my OCD tells me that if I have a thought like that and a physical sensation then it verifies the thought. Dr. McGrath told me I think like a Freudian. Lol which I did not appreciate.

Hey Chrissie! I know he's great! There were times in therapy that I got so frustrated...I might've called him an a**hole, and then immediately apologized. He was like, it's fine, I like assholes, and went on with my therapy. I could be candid without being judged. He spoke so highly of you. :)

I've had this app for awhile and was really nervous to post, comment or like anything.I still am,and frankly I've been having a really rough time which mostly includes ocd symptom,guilt/shame and agoraphobia which is not a fun combo but a small part of me is so tired of hiding and feeling awful all the time, even if at times I feel like I deserve it.I've been wanting to dabble into my hobbies like drawing or gaming but even my hobbies have been stressful & these negative feelings have been so awful for so long that I feel like I'm standing between two roads all the time yet feel horrified and worried either path when it comes to almost any decision will be wrong or not worth it in the end(and I hate that I feel like so.).I'm sure people can relate but the heavy loneliness and dehumanizing feelings is so awful,it's so good at it too.😭 I'm not diagnosed yet but I share alot of symptoms (interested to figure that out about myself soon.),but until I get medical insurance figured out I don't think I'll have access to professional help yet so for now I've just been watching some professionals online and I might finally read 'Freedom From Obsessive Personality Disorder' and see what it can offer.ANYWAYS,I'm trying to force myself to post so I can to people irl and online in any way I can train my brain to not stay so terrified of everything/everyone so,how has your day been?I hope it's been going well,if you've read this book or have any good suggests please feel free to let me know!

Hi, I’m new to the app as of today. I’m 20 years old, and wanted to get some stuff off my chest about the types of OCD I’ve been experiencing over the years. I’m not entirely sure how or when my OCD was brought up, but I’ve been a perfectionist for as long as I can remember. Anywhere and everywhere I go, if I see things placed in an order/angle that my brain doesn’t approve of, next thing I know I’m “fixing” it to be in the placement I feel looks better. I’m not aware of why I feel the need to do that, but until an object is in the “right” placement, I won’t take my eyes off of it. My eye will even twitch. Another form of OCD I have is in relationships. I spend each day overthinking and over-analyzing every one of the relationships that are important to me. Friends, family, significant other. Another one is what’s considered “Pure OCD” . When I get an intrusive thought of something devilish, whether it’s randomly seeing my great aunt naked bc my grandma considers her “fat” even though she’s not, or it’s seeing something demonic and traumatizing, I immediately tell myself, “I don’t wanna see/think about that” over and over and over until the thought is gone. Or I’ll try to replace one mental image with another. One other form of OCD I face every day, is religion. I got baptized for the first time in my life earlier this year in January. I had finally started to repent for my sins, and now I’m constantly feeling afraid that I’m letting God down due to my depression/lack of motivation and vaping/smoking. I also fear excessively that He’ll banish me from His kingdom, or just turn a cold shoulder. I know that what I’ve just typed up is probably all over the place. That is my brain unfortunately. How do you go from being a mentally disorderly and seemingly erratic young woman, to a more well-established, successful woman? I’m all ears!
