My OCD doesn't tell me I'm a bad person, it tells me everyone ELSE is a bad person; my husband, my mother , friends, etc., and I should avoid them. My OCD takes something wrong they did to me (real event) and blows it up to an unforgivable, abusive event. Anyone else?
Thank you for all the comments....for some reason it gives me comfort to know I'm not alone. When I give in to the OCD about them my compulsions are winning arguments with them, convincing them how they wronged me. I know I have deep childhood trauma about bullied.
This is becoming a huge problem for me also. It started once i came off Zoloft, i started getting emotional (crying all the time) and expecting the worst from people/blowing their actions out if proportion. I have the urge to interrogate them to see how they feel about certain subjects to gauge if i should “cut them off” or not, which i don’t want to do because they are my family and i love them. This is happening with past events too, like if someone did something to hurt me (even unintentionally) i CANNOT stop thinking about it and there is weird feeling i can’t place, like anxious/nauseous/nervous/paranoid/sad all mixed together.
I think these are little dragons trying to drag you down. You probably have people around you who really love you but they have their own difficulties also. Try to see yourself with compassion and them as well. Charity. And this is the more challenging charity! It is easy to give a dollar or two to the salvation army but much more humble to see where we are all broken and need love. We all "break the same".
Yes! I’ve had an issue before with being paranoid over people’s actions/intentions with the assumption that things are bad or they mean me harm.
Does anyone else have the compulsion to confess? Even if I haven’t actually done anything my OCD will give me reasons that whatever I’ve done has either hurt someone or will cause people to dislike me. Is that just me?
How can you tell if you're experiencing real event ocd or you are feeling justified guilt for doing something bad. What I did is something that everyone would consider very bad. Is it still OCD? This is making me miserable.
I struggle most with harm OCD+real event+false memories. The mental rumination gets exhausting. I constantly beat myself up over past mistakes and will fill in the pieces I don’t remember with the worst case scenario. I self soothe by reminding myself I am not a bad person and my worries are disproportionate to the actual situation due to the fact I struggle with OCD. But I quickly get interrupted with an intrusive thought telling me “it is that bad and you’re pinning it as OCD to down play it and avoid accountability”. Anyone else struggle with this?
