I've always been interested in fantasy and mythical creatures and stuff existing in our world, so I have a lot of stuff about accidentally killing them or driving then away with my thoughts? (e.g. directing nice things to the fairies because they're judging my character.) That and some other stuff that sounds like it belongs in a fantasy novel (like not thinking bad thoughts when looking at the moon because it can hear me).

Yeah, I know the sort of thing. But I found that it just wore off after a while. Partly through nothing bad actually happening. Maybe there are other beings around us apart from the people, plants and animals that we see - but if there are, they can probably fend for themselves.

@iwillheal Im so sorry to hear that. That sounds terrifying. I’ve been there. It’s derealization. It’s easy and valid to feel that way when you look at the world in isolation. My brother went through a stage in college (he’s a philosophy major) where he was convinced that he was the only one that was real although now he it acknowledges it is only a possible theory. While it is always a possibility you are the main character and you could be the only one truly alive. It is highly improbable and as Freud would call an ego-centered point of view derived from your anxiety. I think the most probable truth- though we can’t be certain- is that we are all like a colony of mushrooms. Connected. We are all part of the same neural path ways and make up a body of energy. Your experiences are shared by many: your pain and your joys. It’s scary to think about the vastness of it all and the uncertainty and it feels easier for our brains to grasp that we (myself) are the only one’s that are truly alive and everyone else is just a bot- it’s only natural for humans to categorize. But in truth i’ve found that different people think the exact same way but no one thinks the exact way in every way. Like a puzzle. Hope this makes sense. Just wanted to share my experience as i’ve felt a similar way to you before. Best of luck💕

So hopefully it will help you focus on the present my nent and find something enjoyable.

Breathing. My fear is that I will never be able to take my attention off of breathing, that I will never truely enjoy anything ever again because my focus is always on it. Like it physically makes me do the motions manually for up to hours at a time, and I really can't put my attention to anything else at all. There are no compulsions for me to escape it, nothing. I've been struggling with this for about 1.5 years now, and before therapy I was forced to manually breathe for up to ten hours a day. Normal people can go back to automatically doing it after 10 seconds, but it used to take hours for me. Now it's under an hour each day, but OCD is suddenly striking really hard this moment. And I fear it'll go back to how it was.

@Riley Thompson I have had this but for less duration. Given that you have had a medical check up in the past year, have you tried intentionally holding your breath- it seems like you might be less focused on breathing and more focused on the fear of not breathing. That is a valid fear! It is terrifying to think you might not be able to breath. I think a good ERP you could try would be swimming (especially lessons or on a team). In swimming you are forced to do regulated breathing and holding of your breath- you will not have time to think- just do. Another thing that might help is just holding your finger on your rest and feeling your heart beat- this will help refocus your attention to the strength of your body- you do not control every beat in the same way you cannot control every breath. Best of luck

Hallo, what a horrible manifestation all my sympathies for you. I am an opera singer. We use deep belly breaths at turns: deliberate breathing; but we also use more shallow breathing along the lines if the obliques…and when you get there (singing quickly) we are singing too wuickly to control. The more wenget into the song the let deliberately we r singing: muscle memory kicks in and we are just going for it and enjoying it. If you take voice lessons from an opera singee he/she/them may help you. It good help you let go. Id try it! Best of luck my fellow traveler!

Relatively new here. This is eye opening. For me nothing seems exempt from OCD and anxiety’s loud intrusions and nagging. But it hits food and fitness very hard a lot. My wife and I are very into staying in shape and clean eating (allowing for a treat once in a while). I did go through a time in my early thirties where my body changed its way of doing things, and I also stopped working out, quickly got fat and almost fatally unhealthy. Yes, I corrected that, and got back into shape an stayed that way. I’m 53 now. Still love staying in shape. But that time of life was very traumatic. And OCD and anxiety, depression, they “know” that and seem to hit it extra hard a lot. But then, it’s always something with OCD.
