Narcissism Diagnosis

Hi, Does anyone know where to get started on getting help for narcissistic personality disorder? Let me be clear: this is not asking for reassurance or OCD-related. This is coming from years of troubled relationships with others, friends and family. I’ve had more than 3 people pointing this out already, that in addition to OCD, I check most if not all boxes for NPD. I’m looking for resources to get a possible diagnosis and getting treatment.

Usually people with NPD refuse treatment and are opposed to correction and self-improvement, so I would question this highly. If you are NPD, I commend you, because this is unbelievably rare.👍 For a proper diagnosis, I recommend checking out Dr. Ramani and her team. She has an excellent team that can point you in the right direction or treat you. Kindest regards.

@cheerio32 Yes, I’d like to think that, but unfortunately, I started the year by destroying and cutting ties with all my close friends and my only brother. All of them pointing out to the same fundamental issues. That they’re tired of my need of validation seeking, trying to one-up everyone, lack of self-awareness/empathy, and overall toxic drama. Hell, I even dare to say that they’re all partying right now. Only person I keep dialogue with is my mom, and even she thinks I have issues. It sucks to start the year like this, and that feeds my OCD too. I’m now convinced I’m the worst human being on earth, but again that’s the OCD I’m sure. Ultimately, I wonder how much of this is OCD and how much is it NPD, if at all. There are also “fantasies” that I have of me desiring wealth, admiration, praise. I even sometimes think I should take over the world, classical supervillain stuff that somehow is engrained in my head. But at the end, I recognize they’re just fantasies lol

@Josean Hmm. This sincerely sounds like OCD and other factors like BPD or Bipolar, with a gentle need for social refinement. BPD or Bipolar, and even social anxiety mixed in with trauma and ROCD can all mirror NPD. Even aspergers (high functioning autism) and OCD can often mirror NPD. Or even just a simple change in worldview and personality can help this. You honestly do not sound like a Narcissist: you are showing a desire to get hel, you are showing responsibile care and concern for yourself, awareness of yourself and others even right now as you write. 🤔 Narcissists almost NEVER do this. Dr. Ramani's team should be able to point you in the right direction, though. 😊 Wishing you the best.

Thanks for your input, yeah it’s a scary thought being diagnosed as NPD. But OCD therapy so far has taught me that even in that case (suppose I had NPD), then that doesn’t necessarily make me 100% evil. All of us have a little bit of bad and good inside of us. It’s the “grey zone” part that makes this so tricky.

Right. Or dare I mix in another possiblity: Your family could be the real Narcissistists and Flying Monkeys. You may have went no contact (NC) with some of them to protect your boundaries, and now your toxic family system is upset and in order to maintain control over you psychologically. They are projecting onto you and gaslighting you to be the Narcissist instead. Perhaps you attract NPD types and they use it to their advantage. When in reality all you have is a desire to be seen and understood by them and the world and rise above your family roles? Validation seeking can come from trauma and not being heard. Much of this can stem from the gentle lack of social understanding and refinement. Desires of wealth and massive success can come from many places, too. Narcissistic family systems also break people and form them into their image and then project that onto you to protect themselves. This doesn't mean you are a Narcissist. 🤔 There are MANY possibilities for your situation this than just being NPD (a worst case and extremely unlikely scenario... which OCD will lovk onto and blow out of proportion). So I hope you get the proper diagnosis and rest assured no matter what. 🧡

OCD/Trauma/Depression

Hi everyone. I haven't posted on here in quite in some time. I'm hesitant to post but I'm battling some things that are compounding onto each other. I've had ocd since 15 I'm 30 now..I feel it's still there but much better than years ago. Currently though I'm really struggling with depression and trauma too. Atleast I believe it's trauma and my psychiatrist saw some indicators. Long story short I was in a relationship with a narcissist and I'm still recovering. I feel my nervous system is still kinda on fight or flight. I've learned that our bodies very much stores trauma. Alongside this I'm pretty critical of my appearance and my self esteem is not so great. I've been putting myself out there more and socializing but I can't shake this feeling of being stuck in an endless loop. It's hard to tell what to tackle. It's difficult for me..I don't know if ocd treatment is for me or more so trauma based therapy. I think there is some overlap..any advice or feedback would be appreciated. A side note I've done ERP in the past and I've been to treatment centers such as mclean. I feel like I need a community because I feel pretty alone but I'm having trouble putting one foot in front of the other.

developing fear of being a narcissist?

recently ive been worrying that im ''secretly'' a narcissist and that im accidentally hurting all of my friends. it really doesnt help that i do relate a bit to some narcisstic traits like having an unstable ego/''needing'' validation, although i suspect it comes from a different source for me (like OCD, maybe?). it also hurts because ive been trying to understand more stigmatized disorders like NPD more and learning more about them so that i don't add to the demonization, but i feel like doing so has also instilled the fear into me that im accidentally harming people i care about or that im not actually a ''good person'' like how i like to think of myself

Getting started

Hi all, As of Monday, I received the diagnosis for Pure OCD during an ADHD evaluation. It came as a bit of a shock, despite knowing my grandpa had OCD (according to my parents and extended family, he passed away before I was born). I'm just a little lost on where to go from here. I'm trying to find a therapist who does both OCD and ADHD, but it's surprisingly hard. Do people typically have different therapists for their different needs? I've mentioned it to close friends and family, and when I've tried to discuss what I'm feeling, they said they do it too to a certain extent which is a little invalidating. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Would anyone be able to give some advice/supportive words for a newly diagnosed college student? Thanks :)
