“Trust your gut” is essentially “check your feelings”, and that is absolutely terrible advice for OCD. OCD is the doubt disorder and causes immense pain and torture by making its victims think things they fear may be true or will likely come true. This advice comes from a good place, from a person who is well-meaning and genuinely trying to help, but they don’t understand OCD. “Trust your gut” may be good advice to people who don’t have OCD, but even then, not always.
OCD tells us that what we fear may be or is happening; that there is no disorder but these are our true feelings and thoughts. “Trust your gut“ can often be mistranslated to “trust your OCD” which of course makes no sense.
If the words of “trust your gut” is triggering, make a loop-tape on this app and listen to it until you get bored. Or just read it over and over. In both cases don’t resort to compulsions.
