Depends on how you're defining "reassurance"! For lots of people with OCD, asking others for reassurance ("am I really a murderer?" "do you think I'm a pedophile?") is a compulsion to get rid of anxiety caused by their intrusive thoughts. If you have a compulsion to seek reassurance, the reassurance you get won't last long and definitely won't solve or cure your OCD. Even if somebody reassures you by saying "your thoughts aren't real", you will still have the thoughts because they come from OCD and not from your own consciousness. Does that make sense? I'm not sure how to explain it ?

Listen: you cannot control your thoughts. If you know something exists, like murder or terrorism etc., your brain is capable of making you think about it whether you like it or not Every person on the entire planet "thinks bad". Even the Pope. Even the Prime Minister. Even your parents. It's part of being human. It's out of your control. And it doesn't mean anything about you. That's just the way our brains work! I sometimes have intrusive thoughts that tell me OCD isn't even real! That doesn't mean those thoughts are true. And it doesn't mean I think OCD is fake! It's just something random that comes into my head.

You should go to a doctor and ask for a diagnosis - nobody on here can diagnose you, but if it's important for you to know then you should go to a professional and ask ?

They are weird, but everyone's brains are weird. If you don't like the thoughts, then ignore them

You're asking for reassurance!! I have never met you, and nobody is fully good or fully bad. We all think horrible things and we can't always help it. I think you should find some help if you can, to help yourself see past the intrusive thoughts.

And ah that's fair enough. Perhaps look online to check if there are any. Also, there are useful YouTube channels you could look at. Chrissie Hodges is a good one; so is Ali Graymond.
