27 yo with no friends and no boyfriend….am I the only one? Who else finds it so challenging to make an keep friends. It’s so hard to even find someone. I want to get married I want to have a family. I keep obsessing over these ideas and expectations that I then spiral because I come to realize that I am no where near those goals. Is this normal?
I definitely get what you’re saying with keeping friends, I find that difficult as well. For me it kind of sucks the energy out of me, probably because I’m over analyzing what I’m saying to the other person, and the ruminating about it later. I’m 18 and supposed to be having a great time in my senior year of high school. My entire elementary through high school experience has been absolute hell, and I even get scared to make friends now too. Idk if this will help and I know I’m 9 years younger than you, but you’re not alone
@Tea I was exactly like that when I was 18….grammar school and high school were so traumatizing mainly due to bullying. It’s so hard. So I get you! But just know that you’re still so young and you have so much potential! I hope you get the help you need now so that in time you will find ways to overcome those obstacles! When I was 18 everything was so new to me I didn’t care about making friends. I just wanted to have fun with whoever was by me! I hope you get the help you deserve and soon find friends ❤️ I wish you the best! Senior year is not all it’s cracked up to be! Prom was so lame haha BUT I made those memories and I’m glad I did it. Make mistakes, do things you’ll regret (in a safe way of course) you have the time to learn from them!
I’m 19 but I understand how you’re feeling. My friendships have been a bit rocky over the past few years, and I find it hard to make new friends bc of my social anxiety and feelings of disconnection. I don’t have a boyfriend either, but dating was one of the few things I really looked forward to. I’m actually battling SO-OCD right now and it’s interfering a lot with that aspect of my life. Mental illness really takes away a lot from you, but just know you’re not alone and things will get better.
@blazed Thank you thank you thank you! Mental illness TAKES SO MUCH FROM US IT ISNT FAIR! There has been so much time that I have wasted constantly being in a gloom of fear….ugh. I hope you get the help you deserve because feeling this way is no fun! Just know that you have the entire world in your hands right now and you can do whatever you want with it! No matter how many times you feel like you messed up the world will still be there waiting for you to grab it again. I hope one of these days you will be able to confidently date. You deserve to love and be loved! ❤️
I relate so much! You’re def not alone. I’m 28, will be 29 soon. I think it’s gotten more intense as I’ve gotten to this age. I’ve been obsessing about getting married and having a family and how far away that seems. Right now I’m working on friendships and that for me is a bit easier to start with. Along with doing exposure therapy for the issues related to relationships.

My daughter is 26 and has ocd and has no friends or boyfriend. She wants these things so badly,
@Moksha I’m actually 26 but I’m going to be 27 soon. I cry to my mother almost every day about how badly I want these things….you are such a beautiful and loving parent and I’m so glad your daughter has you as her support! I hope she finds these things soon or better yet I hope we both realize that we don’t need these things to feel adequate or important that we can and will be okay! But it’s always nice to have friends so I hope she finds them soon ❤️
Unrelated to OCD, I just want to go off for a couple of sentences: I have no friends or any memories to look back on. Never been on a date or had someone who cared about me. I’m tired of being alone, it’s one of the reasons that I have so many mental health issues. I have always had no friends. Never been out or anything. I’m tired of this loneliness and I’m almost 20, I can’t make anymore friends because it’s not the same when you’re an adult. That’s all.
I want to be dead but I don’t want to be dead. It’s a dilemma ? I have so many goals and things I want to become and do in the future. My teenager years have gone down the drain. Now I’m questioning if life will ever get better for me ?? Like it used to be before this hell storm intruded me (3 years ago). When I was younger I saw myself married and growing a family, now I don’t. Idk if it’s a form/theme of ocd but today I kept thinking, “what if I never like anyone ever again or catch feelings for anyone and I’ll stay alone forever” I feel so numb toward everyone and don’t feel attraction to anyone. Before, I’d be crushing over so many guys and now I don’t have interest in anything...can this also be a result of not enough serotonin ?? Anyways I’m not looking for reassurance I think I just needed to vent my late night thoughts and write them out...
Yesterday I got all dressed up to go out with my cousins and I went to the bar we were supposed to meet up at only to be waiting there for an hour until I figured they weren’t coming…so out of desperation or vulnerability I suppose I texted my ex who lived near by only to then be rejected once again from him. Yesterday was intense because it worsened my intrusive thoughts. I just felt so alone and so sad. It’s so hard making friends and it really sucks sometimes because I like to be social I like to make friends but I just never make any. I feel like something just isn’t clicking with me. I’m already 27 and I really wish I had a significant other I want that in my life I want a family.
