Meds or no meds
How many people feel like they do better on meds and who feels like it doesn't help much?

I just can't tell if the medicine helps me. I'm leaning towards it doesn't. But kind of nervous to stop taking it.
Following - and also would like to know about side effects. I’m not big on pills and even avoid taking pain meds if I can but I’m getting desperate and if the meds can help get me over this hump than it’s something I will consider.

So I’ve been on Effexor for 7 years. It took about a year until I even found the right medication. Some of the medications I tried even made my symptoms. However, now I’m extremely glad I went on medications because it definitely helps my symptoms
Im getting back on. Prozac took a while to kick in but I did ERP more effectively and then was able to let go of some thoughts easier. I stopped taking them but im officially getting back on a new med just to see if they work better
I've honestly only been off meds for like a month in the 25 years that I've had ocd. Definitely need meds
@777Q I too have taken ssris since 1988 for ocd/depression. For the past several years I've taken lexapro and Wellbutrin. I, too take blood pressure, cholesterol, NSAID and a biologic for an autoimmune disease. When I tried to get off antidepressants probably in the 90s I felt like I needed to go back on pretty soon. I hate taking meds and side effects ie drowsiness and gi. Would like to start going to a naturopath to supplement treatments. I do know of people here and there with ocd who don't take meds but it seems the majority do. Maybe if we really work on ERP and mindfulness we can at least cut down on dosage.....I did have one naturopath a few years ago say I will likely never be able to get off antidepressants but I say never say never.
@777Q Yeah u can definitely try and more natural path but just taper super slowly
Much better with, almost 3y, helps a lot keep the always present anxiety down and keeps me functioning
Does anyone who has OCD NOT TAKE MEDS? Is it possible to not take them and manage life in a way that is productive. (Not really sure what word to use here but I think you all get the idea)
For those who have had success with medication for OCD/anxiety, how is your life different now compared to before starting medication?
At this point I feel like I need to get on something ASAP. I know that therapy is a long road and hard work and I am totally down to do it but in the short term (I just started this journey) I think I need pharmaceutical help. Some of the people closest to me agree. I have never been on meds before and it's scary AF but the road I am going down is scarier. Advice?
