Spoon Water Attack #2
I’m not sure how a lot of y’all thought me sharing an ex spire for a spoon water attack was me being traumatized and then also me not being allowed to joke while sharing my own mini ERP with said spoon water incident, so here’s a meme 😁🤣 Also, I know quite a few people have mentioned on here about dish water and contamination OCD, especially water from a spoon getting on their clothing and what to do. I’ll share again, and let’s get it right this time… Sometimes, water hits a spoon you’re washing and it attacks you. It’s sometimes nasty. Other times, it’s not. In the spoon water attack situation, steps to assess what your rescuing is and your ERP session: 1. How much water is on your clothing? 2. Is it food, water, soap, etc. and how much? Your extreme reaction to immediately shower for an hour and scrub your skin raw is not the correct reaction. But it IS okay, depending on the situation, you change your shirt (especially if there’s food bits from the spoon) and wash your hands. And we don’t want staining of the shirt, so hitting it with Spray and Wash is fine IF there’s food or wine that got on your shirt and could stain. It’s ALL about reasonable reactions AND accepting those reasonable reactions. Your OCD won’t like that because it wants you to shower for an hour or more and for you to scrub your skin raw and wash your clothes over and over again—but that isn’t reasonable. I looked at my jacket after the splash and it was just a few water spots. I did nothing about it and went on to eat dinner. That is ERP. That is one of the big reasons why I’ve been recovered for years: what is reasonable and never listening to my OCD.
