I’ve taken a test for ADHD and I answered “very often” for nearly every question. I know I have OCD but every question was about things that have been a problem for a very long time. Is there anyone on here that has both illnesses that could have a chat with me please?
I also have both! For me they feel like distinct things but sometimes they have traits/symptoms that overlap, and others that conflict or make each other worse (e.g., obsessions/compulsions making it even harder to focus on tasks because I'm easily distracted by interruptions and so on, or sometimes the ADHD hyperfixation can make things like compulsive research/reassurance seeking worse).

Hello Newb82! ADHD and OCD can definitely co-occur. The best course of action to gain an accurate diagnosis would be to speak with an OCD specialist. They would be able to help rule out ADHD if it is not actually occurring.
Hey! Is it possible to have ADHD even though my OCD makes me organised and be always on time, etc.? 😊 Cause Ive been diagnosed with both in the past. :)
@Day23 - Sure. OCD and ADHD can co-occur with any subtype of OCD. However, because OCD can cause us to have symptoms that from the outside might resemble ADHD it would be crucial that you speak with a professional to get an accurate diagnosis.
@Day23 I have been diagnosed with both ADHD and OCD, and this was definitely the case for me. OCD can mask ADHD and vice versa.

I was diagnosed with adhd, later with OCD. I find it hard because my OCD strives to perfectionism, not making mistakes, alway being on time, keeping everything organised etc. But adhd is the opposite.. sometimes i feel like i cant have both but other times i feel like my adhd gives me ocd 😂😂 what do you think about having both diaorders? Adhd should be from birth on, OCD doesnt

@Day23 In my experience the symptoms can vary in response to different life circumstances so it's possible you could notice different symptoms at different times in your life. Some people with ADHD are diagnosed in childhood, while others aren't diagnosed until later on when they're dealing with new responsibilities like college or having a job, and then the ADHD becomes more noticeable. In my case I had some hyperactive behavior in childhood and started struggling more in college, but I didn't actually get diagnosed with ADHD until my 30s.
I have both too! OCD is all spirals and rumination and panic spikes. ADHD is all forgetting, lack of focus, and struggling to complete tasks for me. I’ve heard it’s pretty common for them to overlap but I don’t have the stats.
@Honeyshark I forget everything. The local cafe takes payment when you’ve finished. They know me well for walking away without paying. I put every appointment I have in my phone’s diary but still miss them. I have to listen to audiobooks etc because I can’t focus on a book and even with the audiobooks I zone out. With housework I do half a job and go back to it later. At school they had a hard time to get me to do classwork and I hardly did any homework. I wasn’t even entered for the exams.
@Honeyshark Thing is I have an official diagnosis of schizophrenia which the doctor thinks was a misdiagnosis. He put OCD and mild autism on the table, both of which I could have although I’m more sure of the OCD. Neither of those account for my terrible concentration and memory. None of these new diagnoses bother me too much. I just want to get rid of the schizophrenia label so I can come off the meds.
@Newb82 If your doc thinks it was a misdiagnosis - couldn’t they test you again?
@Honeyshark I’m going through getting that done properly now. There is just a big crisis with the NHS atm.

Hi! I just discovered a couple of months ago that I have ADHD. I already had the diagnose for ocd and now I also have this diagnose, and I was really wondering how can you treat both? Because I think they fuel each other a lot, especially because I have Pure OCD so it’s mainly mental anxiety and compulsions. How do you treat both, does somebody have experience with this? Is there a good therapy for both of these? Thanks :)
Hi all, As of Monday, I received the diagnosis for Pure OCD during an ADHD evaluation. It came as a bit of a shock, despite knowing my grandpa had OCD (according to my parents and extended family, he passed away before I was born). I'm just a little lost on where to go from here. I'm trying to find a therapist who does both OCD and ADHD, but it's surprisingly hard. Do people typically have different therapists for their different needs? I've mentioned it to close friends and family, and when I've tried to discuss what I'm feeling, they said they do it too to a certain extent which is a little invalidating. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Would anyone be able to give some advice/supportive words for a newly diagnosed college student? Thanks :)
