Is there a name for fearing that you may act sexually inappropriate in public? That is, that you fear that you’ll feel the urge to sexually assault someone? I guess it’s like POCD but with adults. Does this fall into an OCD subtype or not really?
You know NOCD well enough as an alumni that you wouldn’t get reported or anything of that nature with an NOCD therapist. Don’t listen to your OCD’s silliness.
@Nica Yeah 😂😂 it’s just that they can be pretty dark thoughts and I never really told a therapist about it. But with this group, I know I’m not alone!
It doesn’t need to be a known theme for it to be obsessive compulsive
@Winchester2004 True, I’m just trying to see how I could bring this up to a therapist without getting reported or judged. Also, that begs the question: how do I know whether it’s OCD not something more sinister like ASPD or NPD?
@Josean It is an OCD subtype. Any therapist who specializes in OCD and ERP will be unphased by your theme. Any therapist at NOCD will be well acquainted with this kind of theme. As for how to be certain it’s OCD, and not something bad: try to sit with the uncertainty. If you could know for sure, you wouldn’t have OCD. The fact that you’re asking, and concerned this might be something bad is OCD. There was a bit of reassurance in my response. Try to sit with the uncertainty, even if things that feel intolerable. It’s the way through. You got this
@Simon Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah I’ll do just that. I already was doing exposures last year. Even had a sexual encounter with someone where initially my OCD flared up with similar concerns like “omg am I r*ping her?”. But in the end, I proved my OCD wrong and enjoyed myself lol
Oh, I can relate! I started my therapy journey because of this. And, two things: 1. You haven't acted on your urge so your therapist has nothing to report; 2. ERP works for both OCD and some true sexual deviances (or at least I was told that by my NOCD therapist). So, tell your therapist bc it will eat at you and you will need to resolve this before either actually acting on the urge or allowing this OCD subtype rule your mind.
@Anonymous I’m glad I’m not alone! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I feel that way too, that if I don’t tell them, that it can turn into an actual problem. I mean, that you become desensitized to your own sexual urges that it can become a self fulfilling prophecy. At the moment, I’d like to think I have empathy and self awareness that I won’t act out on these thoughts. But we’re all capable of pretty messed up things, so better get it under control or watch it consume me.
Hey! Are you my brain? We think so much alike. I am totally freaked out about self fulfilling prophecy or law of attraction or name it, claim it. The reality is that there is no evidence to support any of those theories.
@Anonymous Also, this is more of a personal question, but do you (or did you) struggle with p*rn addiction? I feel that can be an issue and is the elephant in the room (pun intended?). Or at least something that can fuel deviant fantasies.
Hi I just have a few questions! (Im 14 btw) Okay so basically I’m really worried I’ll become a pedo/I already am and I don’t know it yet. I’m also really scared if I SA someone, even tho I don’t want to and I’d never do something like that but I feel like this part of me is saying that I will and it’s really scaring me. I feel so alone and I’m so scared I’m a bad person on the inside and this isn’t ocd and I’m gonna unleash hell on this earth I’m so scared. I’ll get a thought like if I’m walking past someone random it will be like “What if you sa them?” And it scares me so bad I feel horrible for thinking that. Is this apart of it? I feel like I’m always fixated on the topic of sa to check if I would do something like that, I don’t know anymore I just feel like a bad person (btw I have not done anything like that to anyone!)
Hi everyone, I have been struggling with something for a while and I am starting to wonder if it is related to OCD. For as long as I can remember, I have had this habit of looking at people, whether friends, family, or strangers and even kids, through a lens that feels like it is from the perspective of someone who might find them attractive or sexualize them. I don’t want to feel attracted; it just feels like my brain automatically puts them in that perspective. I’ve done this for as long as I can remember, and I honestly thought it was just part of me being curious or creative. I have always thought this was just a quirk of my brain, but now I am starting to wonder if it is an OCD thing, especially since it feels automatic and I get anxious afterward. Has anyone else experienced this? I did not think this was part of OCD, but now I am not so sure.
Have you ever had a thought about sexual taboo topics, when you have a person for whom ocd is attached, that you think "maybe that person wants that, that's the way he looks at me or what do I know" what if that person wanted it, and you feel an urge to do something about it, you say or what do I know?
