Birth control
For those whose OCD gets worse with your cycle, did birth control help?
For those whose OCD gets worse with your cycle, did birth control help?
Yes it did, but it doesn’t cure all symptoms and I still have freak out moments.
Thanks. Yeah I'm thinking of getting back on it. I just worry about birth control and having a history of breast cancer in my family.
@Mama_m02 Def talk to your doctor about it :)
My ocd is so bad before and during my period...i thought I was the only one. I've also read somewhere that hormonal imbalance can cause it get worse too.. So I gotta get that checked,bcuz I feel like I really so have a hormonal imbalance
Absolutely. It depends on the person and also their age. I’m in perimenopause/ menopause and still have all the hormonal stuff - for me estrogen keeps me from being more anxious and crushingly depressed. It’s worth talking to am obgyn. Btw done bc works for some and others need a different type - some make me much worse.
@Erin P How are you doing now? I now take oral progesterone and estradiol patch plus crème
@Schoolie93 I’m 59 and on estrogen-it helps. I’m glad you are taking hormones. Are they helping.
@Erin P Yes I am 56 and keep hoping I will get to menopause but my labs don’t show I’m in menopause yet! How about you? Do you take the estradiol patch, the crème or both and how many mg are you taking? I take 1mg patch and 1mg or a pump of estradoil crème and progesterone orally 150mg.
@Erin P They help some but I have bad weeks so I’m wondering if I’m still ovulating. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and kept ovaries so I won’t know by my periods
@Schoolie93 You may want to ask your obgyn if what you are taking is delaying menopause as 56 is definitely late to start. When did your mom start? Estradiol orally of the only thing that works for hormonally.
@Schoolie93 I suggest having your obgyn write an order so you can have your hormone levels checked on a good day and a bad day. They won’t won’t to do it but tell them you need to know. For me personally I discovered that patches don’t work for me as sometimes I would get absolutely zero hormone from it.
@Erin P Wow really because I kind of felt that too. So do you only do the crème
@Erin P HRT does not prevent you from going into menopause. Take an FSH blood test. If your above 30, your in menopause
@Schoolie93 I do a pill
@Erin P Have you had your blood work FSH taken, you may already be in menopause. I want to go on pill but doctor won’t let me until I’m in menopause 😩
@Schoolie93 I still have periods and pms
@Erin P Omgosh really .. Wow you don’t hear that too often. We had a friend whose mom got pregnant in mid 60’s but I didn’t even know that was possible . I’m like the last one of my friends that hasn’t gone into menopause and I have younger friends. So crazy how maybe we have more eggs . I just don’t know. Well they say it’s better the longer you have that health wise so at least you benefit from that . Having this late in life. Is your pill the estradiol pill? Sorry if I asked you before my brain fog is bad today
@Schoolie93 Yes estradiol
I think it really depends on the person. BC raised my anxiety in general, so I went off of it. My ocd does get worse around my cycle, but it’s consistently improved overall.
do*
Currently having an anxious night because my hormones are doing whatever they want before my cycle starts. It's so frustrating. I feel very, very on edge and like I'm constantly anxious about something bad happening. Also been nauseous and having sleep issues. So irritating. How does everyone else deal with the spike in anxiety and OCD before periods? I'm seeing an endocrinologist on Monday to try and help but I feel so stressed out.
How are your experiences during an ocd spike while going through a menstruation? It doesn't matter if you are afab, your experience is valid too! I noticed my thoughts get worsened and the spike intensified, but now that I'm taking sertraline I don't feel an panic attack as before but the throughs and feelings are definitely there so is an unpleasant situation
I have had OCD my whole life and was diagnosed by a therapist 2 years ago. Specifically I struggle a lot with health, contamination and pure ocd. I was doing exposures and really felt like I conquered by contamination ocd. With the health ocd I have an intense fear I will have a food or medicine allergy and go into anaphylactic shock. This takes up a lot of my energy day to day. Within the past year, we bought a home, renovated and recently got married. My husband wants to start trying for a baby soon but I am not ready at all because of how much I feel like I have gone backwards with my anxiety and ocd. This spiked a lot with the stress of wedding planning. I’m scared pregnancy will spike my health/contamination ocd even more and I won’t be able to handle it. I always wanted babies but now that it’s getting closer and I know how much ocd I truly have I am so nervous I will cause myself and baby more stress than good. Does anyone have positive stories of TTC/pregnancy/PP and motherhood with ocd?
