i developed this fear of getting schizophrenia a couple months back and i seemed to have gotten it under control until a few days ago where i read a comment about someone with schizophrenia. now it’s non stop intrusive thoughts again.
I kept telling my therapist I'm afraid to get schizophrenia and lost my mind and my therapist said if you lost your mind, you wouldn't even know it. I'm obviously consciously aware of my thoughts. That gave me peace of mind. Hope that helps

@T’hara How are you putting up with it now ? I’m currently going through this but it’s mainly hyper awareness towards sounds , Im sometimes laying in bed and I hear my fan make a weird noise and my mind immediately thinks I hear a voice then I start to question it and I get lost in thought after that .
@Lemonmind_ I still struggle with this theme but nowhere near as bad as it was 2 years ago. ERP definitely helps tremendously. It’ll be okay! You’ll get better, I swear.
@T’hara I’ve been doing ERP these past 2 weeks and it’s definitely has helped with my fear of having it , but now I’ve developed an obsession with sounds to the point where I start to question every little thing I hear around the house , this mainly happens when I’m trying to sleep when everything is nice and quiet then I get the compulsion to check the sounds around me and I just end up freaking myself out when in reality I don’t actually hear voices but instead it’s my fan making wind sounds haha or my dogs outside , but it still drives me nuts to have an ur age to check sounds it makes me feel like I’m going crazy .
@Lemonmind_ your obsession with sounds is apart of the schizophrenia OCD so you gotta use your ERP tools to deal with that as well. when you hear a sound try not to think much into it. you can even go as far to saying “yeah maybe i am hearing voices. oh well” and go to sleep. ik it sounds terrifying to say that but it’s training your brain that those noises don’t need to be feared. it all works in the end.
@T’hara Been doing this for the past 3 days and it honestly has been working , I’ve been going more hrs without questioning a single sound so thank you for that advice ! , although today I had a stressful day due to lack of sleep so I kinda fell into a spiral and started to question sounds again for hrs but reading this reminded me to keep on going and keep on sticking to it so again thank you !
@Lemonmind_ Hi I’m currently struggling with this it’s so scary I just got diagnosed with ocd, but I knew I always had it. But this specific things has been heavily on my mind and it’s terrifying. How ar you doing now?
@Dcerda941 A LOT better thanks to ERP , first it started with eye floaters and thinking I was seeing things so I would constantly check if I saw what I thought I saw but most of the time it was just my brain making up images or literally just an eye floater passing in the corner of my eye (that obsession lasted 2 month) then after I over came that compulsion i developed this other compulsion to check every time I heard a noise that sounded like a voice so I would sometimes spiral for hrs paralyzed in thought checking every noise I heard around the house (especially at night time when the house AC was on and my fan was on) but I mean I would check at least 100 times but I later learned that that’s called auditory pareidolia and since my theme was fear of having schizophrenia I became consumed with checking for voices , but thankfully that compulsion is going away , i probably only check like 5-10 times a day now instead of hundreds and all that is thanks to ERP and just showing up for myself everyday regardless of how real my spirals felt , the crazy part is I never once hallucinated in my life but my OCD just wouldn’t leave me alone since my fear was so intense that I felt the need to CHECK and CHECK and I spent at least 4 months being tortured by this theme , but I’ve been doing ERP everyday for 2 months now and holy has it been hard but the struggle is so worth it now that I’m actually seeing results , there’s honestly so much I can say about this theme but I don’t wanna reassure you much and feed into this fear , but one thing I will say is that you aren’t alone and if you haven’t tried ERP I highly recommend it !
I have been having these fears about developing schizophrenia, it reached a point where i am starting to almost hear things or the smallest sounds and my mind tells me you're schizophrenic, and i feel this weird sensations in my ear as if someone is whispering yet i can barely hear them, the thing is i am not diagnosed yet because i never work with an OCD therapist but i study psychology so i just used what i learnt to give a meaning to my suffering, many themes of this fear have been happening before and this schizophrenia fear is the last one. I want to know what advice you can give me or ways to make my brain calm down a little bit, i also don't have and can't afford a therapist that's why i am here in the first place I also want to know more informations or experiences with this theme if anyone habe experienced it and what helped you with it I remember feeling better for a while but than i collapsed back, but i am hoping to get better soon too or anytime in the future, I don't want reassurance so make sure you be as real as you can, and thanks 🙏🏻
idk why this is such a recurrent thing for me , I get so scared through the day when I’m not distracted when I think about psychosis. or being put in a mental hospital that it gives me bad anxiety, one time I had a panic attack at the thought of having it 💔 I can’t pin point if it’s intrusive thoughts because it’s a fear of mine .. or not. I think this is the worst thought / fear I have
Hi guys! I had really bad harm ocd about 2 years ago and I went through therapy and eventually got really good at handling it when it would pop up. The other day, I was scrolling on TikTok and came across a girl talking about a guy who was presenting a lot of schizophrenic symptoms but no one paid attention and got him help, he was having a lot of delusions, hallucinating, thinking everyone was out to get him, thought he was Jesus and his dad was the president and ended up doing horrific things. The day after that, I was dealing with some work drama and had the thought of “what if all my coworkers are against me and trying to get me fired”. That really stressed me out, cause I don’t normally think about them like that and I went down a rabbit hole of thinking that was the beginning of me developing schizophrenia, ended up googling stuff all night, taking tests, crying and seeking reassurance. I had a thought the other day “your dad is the president”, this one didn’t stress me out as bad as I knew it was just the video I had seen and it was an intrusive thought about it, and I also didn’t believe it. Today I was with some friends and I got a prize at a place we went and it said “lonely” on it. I do have my moments of feeling lonely and this week has been specifically trying so I had a thought like “oh someone’s out to get me cause I got this”. I know this isn’t logical and it wouldn’t make sense to just randomly get it if someone was truly after me and it was just a stupid prize at a random place, anyone could’ve gotten it. Im just struggling a lot with schizophrenic OCD and thinking I’m in the pre stages of it. In my good moments, I don’t think I am at all and it was all just sparked from the video I watched but in my bad moments, these thoughts feel real!! They really stress me out and make me feel like I’m going to lose my mind causing me to lose my job/ end up in a psych hospital/ never live a normal life/ end up alone, never see me my loved ones/ hurt my loved ones. I just want to feel normal and not like I’m about to lose my mind and everything I care about. Please help!!! Anyone else going through something similar and can help me get through this!
