NOCD does not take my insurance and there is a zero percent chance I can afford it without. I've already spoken to a representative. BetterHelp has income discounts and you pay by the week instead of per session, so I'm trying it out. Has anyone found a therapist trained in ERP on the platform?
Nope, no, don’t do it. BetterHelp is horrible.
Be careful BetterHelp fine print says they cannot guarantee a licensed professional and they have a lot of complaints with better business bureau. Try cerebral maybe or pro bono therapists in your area. Psychology today website can help you
I can't believe they haven't been sued and/or shut down. What they're doing is beyond unethical.

I do not know but Iocdf has lists of providers so there might be an erp therapist in your network - I usually compare the insurance list with theirs

I currently have a therapist from BetterHelp as well due to insurance, but I’ve been told they don’t diagnose. My therapist also doesn’t specialize in ocd as well which is frustrating due to the fact that I’m not diagnosed with ocd. You are also able to change therapists if you want and I kind of want to, but feel bad doing that haha because she’s not a bad therapist by any means. All that said, I read up on ERP therapy with BetterHelp and am sure therapists that specialize in ocd do use that as a treatment (not 100% sure though). BetterHelp also has hour classes on specific topics (anxiety, depression, etc.) that you can listen to to better understand it. I think BetterHelp is a good alternative if you’re really looking for something.
@piperjosephinee Thank you! I have a regular therapist that I've seen for 2 years that I have a great relationship with. But she, my psychiatrist, and myself came up with a plan to get me in ERP therapy with a specialist for a while. I tried a therapist on BetterHelp and had my first session today, but she didn't seem to actually be familiar with treating ocd. I just very specifically want ERP. It sucks that it's so expensive without insurance.
@butwhatif You’re welcome! I feel like BetterHelp is very helpful for general mental disorders following under anxiety and depression and better ways to cope. However, I don’t think you will be able to find the long lasting relief you’re looking for with ocd. I know it’s frustrating because I too cannot afford to get therapy from this app, but for now I use it as a way to communicate with those relating to me. I hope one day I can hopefully get the diagnosis I’m looking for and you can get the therapy you deserve!! We got this, stay strong 🫶🏻

I'm not sure if BetterHelp has changed their ways but they were selling patient information, so they're a hard no for me.
I’m starting NOCD. I had several years of cbt as a child (well over 20 years ago) and I see a trauma therapist. But now I’ll be seeking further help for OCD and just really scared. CBT wasn’t helpful for me. How has ERP been helpful for you? Do you feel like you’ll finally get your life back? I’m consumed by my obsessions 😢 Would love others feedback if ERP helped you ❤️

I've been in and out of talk therapy for OCD-related issues for years, but it hasn't been effective long-term. I am struggling with body image / eating disorder adjacent obsessions and I am really hopeful that ERP might actually give me some relief. I had my first session with my NOCD therapist a few weeks ago. It felt like a good match and I was ready to unpack my obsessions and compulsions to try ERP for the first time. The day of my second session she canceled due to personal illness. Then this happened a second time. Yesterday all of my future booked sessions were canceled without explanation. I went to schedule with a new therapist and the ones that seemed could be a good fit are filled up until at least early April. I booked a slot and sent the therapist a message letting her know I would be interested in starting sooner if a slot opened up. I am just disappointed. I could just meet with another therapist who has earlier availability, but it's most important to me that the therapist be a good fit since I've been through therapy so many times. I feel like I'm in limbo until I have an ERP plan set up and I'm not sure how to move forward in the meantime. I'm planning try out a support group but I need a personalized exposure plan and I'm not sure if that's something I should just try to set up myself? Anyone have something similar happen to them? Any thoughts or advice would be helpful.
