That is very true trial and error! Don't get me wrong I know it does work well for a lot of people but as I said earlier you have to be 100% behind taking the meds and I don't think I ever was which doesnt help at all. I will say I'm a very sicky person if that makes any sense lol. Ive suffered sickness alot if I'm ill it's usually sickness and anxiety can make me very sick. Saying that if they do make you sick which I hope they don't you can ask for an antisickness to take along side the fluoxetine. I was given some cyclizine which helps soo much with sickness but I decided to stop taking the meds completely anyway. I have sertraline which I've never tried due to fear of being sick I've also been given amitriptyline to help with sleep not tried those yet but need to tonight as I'm not sleeping. Whatever you do I hope it goes well for you ?

No problem happy to share advice just hope I haven't put you off taking them cos they can be great for a lot of people. It was a bit of both. Always feeling sick and actually being sick. It messed with my appetite aswell ?

No not at all, that’s why I asked as I wanted as many experiences as possible really! I know it’s trial and error a lot of the time with antidepressants

I’ve been on fluoxetine 80mg for almost 2 years now. I didn’t see any improvement until I was into the higher doses and my psychiatrist confirmed that most ppl with ocd need higher dosages of SSRIs to see symptom improvement. It’s all extremely dependent on your own body chemistry but I think it’s absolutely worth it to try meds and see if they help you. I have side effects (mostly from Wellbutrin) but they don’t outweigh the way I am without the meds so, it’s just something you kind of deal with.

Have you ever tried natural remedies for anxiety? Also there's some amazing channels on YouTube for relaxing music and anxiety mediation if that's your thing. Obviously doesn't help long term but can be a great relief. Try Jason Stephensons channel he has some amazing music great for relaxing, nice to have on in the background or listen to with earphones I also take cbd oil in paste form that can help with anxiety quite quickly

I’ve tried mindfulness and couldn’t stick with it really, not looked into natural remedies though so maybe I’ll give them a go! Thanks!

I'm the same with mindfulness! However I do find guided meditations can work well sometimes.

Honestly I was on fluoxetine 50mg for ocd and anxiety and it didn't really work for me. It made me very sick but it could work for you im not sure I didn't have a great experience with it really don't think it helped my anxiety in anyway kind of made it worse because of the sickness which is a common side effect. I know not everyone will suffer that but I did it's not something I'd take again but everyone is different. To be honest no meds have done me any good. I don't want to take them. For me I think you have to be 100% behind taking meds or it's not gonna be good for you. Just my honest opinion

I don't take meds long term anymore . I occasionally take diazapam as and when i need it when anxiety is really bad. I've took sleeping tablets for my insomnia which didn't work very well. I was prescribed sertraline which I haven't took because I'm too scared to take any meds due to bad experiences from the fluoxetine and before that mirtazipine

Has anyone been prescribed Escitalopram for their OCD? And if so what was your experience like. I just got into my 2nd week of it and got bumped up to 20mg. Today has been weird because my anxiety is gone which has been for a bit but the thoughts seem stronger today especially the Harm related ones. Almost like commands now. Can anyone relate?

I try and read/post on this message board at least every now and then as a way to feel connected to people in the OCD community, and to offer whatever kind of advice my experience has taught me, because I don’t think any human should have to struggle with OCD. I wanted to share that since starting clomipramine, my symptoms have become a lot less severe. I was hesitant to try this medication even though my dr has suggested it because it’s an older antidepressant, so it comes with more side effects. For me, that’s been issues urinating and when I first started a really odd feeling when I yawned (like, the heck?). And then a specific spinal reflex that is not appropriate to mention was physically impossible for about a month, but I’ve regained some ability there…. But the side effects for me are 100% worth it given how much it’s helped me. I can walk away from obsessive thoughts / behaviors without going nuts or having to perform some other ritual just to walk away lol. I can put thoughts out of my mind more easily, let them go, and move on. It’s like a switch. I still struggle, but I still don’t think the medicine is fully effective just yet, and I just have a lot more hope for the potential of a normal life now. Or like, a functional one at the least. So if you’re currently out of luck and haven’t tried this medicine yet, I recommend giving it a shot. I take 75mg right now and think I may need to increase some, but even now it’s helping so much. Don’t let dosage increases scare you, the side effects will taper back down… I hope this helps someone.

I used to get very irritable and have severe ocd, while I have only been on Prozac 3 weeks at only 10mg then recently 20mg. I have noticed that although my intrusive thoughts are still there, it’s more manageable like 30% more manageable and I’m hoping with time and if needed an increase of my dosage it could go to 50-90% more manageable. Anyone experience with ssri please share your experience dosage, name, how long it ok to kick in and how is your ocd now on the meds? Thank you
