Hey Buddy hope you get this message . It is about 8 pm your time . How are things?!?!
Hey Buddy I had did a little bit of traveling also and had to use a little extra care in unfamiliar areas . I had wrote about checking out the beaches recently up and down the Florida coast over a period of a few weeks.
@777Q I moved home a couple of years ago to Cornwall which I liked but it is so rough here. Literal cutthroats.
@777Q I am the biggest guy here but I don’t think they care.
I have the following two books by the Dalai Lama: The Art of Happiness and Daily Advice from the Heart . Also much material from the deceased Monk Thich Nhat Hahn .
@777Q I want to read “Anger” by Thich Nhat Hahn.
I hate banging in corridors. 🫨
Something new Americans wanting to visit Europe in 2024 will need a visa in addition to a passport.
@777Q Do you know why?
@777Q UK isn’t Europe anymore.
@NotSoNewb82 Or not EU anyway.
More accountability. Some documents were signed in the 1980s and they are getting to it now . Another layer of security.
@777Q Fair enough.
I had to get tough with more than one person.
I was like a beast!! 🫣
I’m waiting for the first months rent to hit my bank then I’m India rich. Everyone and I mean all of them are robbing you. They don’t do this in the UK.
Cheese momos £1. That is like a foil tray full.
I have been reading lately that the India economy and infrastructure will move up to the number 2 spot over the next few years they are 4 or 5 now worldwide.
@777Q Fastest growing is that?
@777Q Because trust me they are skint.
@NotSoNewb82 I will say it is great for OCD though. You either put up with your themes or you die. You certainly wouldn’t eat anything.
@NotSoNewb82 And it helps to see people worse off than yourself.
@NotSoNewb82 There must be OCD sufferers here, how do they cope?
@NotSoNewb82 Like I say I’ll go somewhere nice when my money lands.
@NotSoNewb82 There are two really excellent Indian restaurants in Florida that I know of and know the owners . Excellent people and food at both places . There are some very spicy 🥵 dishes that I really like .
@777Q I like them hot too. I love UK Asians. They are nice.
@777Q Not so bad today. I’ve been charged the proper price and not short changed at two shops I use. An Indian girl at the momo shop keeps smiling at me too. I’ve been offered accommodation at £2.50 a night which is 25% of what it costs elsewhere. I haven’t agreed yet as he still may come down. I’ve stopped showing them my money and I’m giving them small notes if I can. Beautiful country, lovely people. They speak Hindi here but they seem to understand Punjabi words and I speak a little Punjabi.
I keep wanting to smoke. I don’t know why because I haven’t smoked in over two years. It will pass but it is still strange. I have a chai stall across the road that does tea for 10R you can do the conversion.
Just keep adding to this thread if you want to talk. Anytime will do and I will reply when I can.
No good can come from smoking. Try your best in keeping up the quitting. Like you say the smoking urge will pass , if you let it . All things shall pass .
@777Q The urges are resistible these days but I don’t like them. Cigarettes make my anxiety go off the charts so there is no point anyway. There are chipmunks in the garden but the manager won’t let me feed them. 😂 I don’t know what they did.
@NotSoNewb82 I am a big fan of chipmunks and squirrels. As a child I would feed squirrels 🐿️ out of the palm of my hand .There could be maybe some liability if they were to bite you maybe that is why they try to discourage you feeding the chipmunks. One thing I do remember from many years ago I had some little keepsakes from when my children were babies and this one chipmunk 🐿️ got into where their items were stored and chewed through about half of their things ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
@777Q From the way he said it it was like he was saying they were a menace.
I think I have somewhere around the corner to at least try for meds. It is a chemist but it sure doesn’t look like Boots. I don’t know how I’ll tell though. I don’t notice my medication till I forget to take it.
There are little lizards too if you look for them. I’m not sure we even have lizards in the UK.
I saw some kind of wasp that was a dark blackish blue colour and OCD tried to get in but if I start getting OCD now I’d never cope so the real risk is keeping me sane in a way.
@NotSoNewb82 And as far as exposure goes I can’t avoid it. I feel better than I did in the UK. I’m just waiting until my money starts going into my account then I’m free and easy.
I am not going back to the expensive restaurants again. Clean? Yes. Fresh? Very. Tasty? Yes indeed but £11 for a meal is basically the same as the UK.
We commonly have little lizards in Florida called geckos. My cat catches about two a month that slip into the house, I try my best to put them back outside alive when possible.
@777Q Ha. I love killing machines as cats. We had a feral one when I was little and she used to line about seven mice along the doormat every morning. Someone said they don’t see us hunt and assume we need feeding lol. What sort of cat did you have?
How far are you from any large body of water 💦?
@777Q The Ganges is at the bottom of the street but it is about 500m below street level. Not that I know what 500m looks like but it is a long way.
@777Q I think the danger is flash flooding from heavy rain which I’ve seen but tbh I haven’t a clue.
Small elderly domestic short haired, had her since a kitten from the shelter, she is 12 . It is 930 am so it is 7 pm in your neck of the woods?
That’s right. 12 is about middle aged isn’t it? I’ve heard of cats living past 21. Lots of times I’ve heard that. Ours passed at 21.
I love animals but because of the medication I take I find them really hard to look after. I’ve settled for loving the animals of others which is a joy because you only need to play with them. I’ll miss my neighbours’ dogs in the UK. They loved me. They were three cairn terriers like Toto in the Wizard of Oz.
My little cat is a senior citizen, equivalent to 64 in human years .
How far is the ocean?
@777Q Oh miles. I’m nearest to the Bay of Bengal I think. To the east.
In Britain we call domestic short hairs moggies in an affectionate way.
I tell you what I’m right in the middle at the top. Type Rishikesh into maps if you want. Nepal would be an easy journey from here for a visa run.
Starting to read about it they say world capital of yoga and meditation, interesting. Also it is hot there today , like in Florida.
It will be 30C tomorrow. It is bearable. It’s just like a very hot day in the UK every day even when it is cloudy. I’m only going out in short bursts. They took my sun tan lotion off me at the airport. Ironically though I still don’t have a tan. Most days have been cloudy. This is the hottest country I’ve been to. They make out you couldn’t stand the summers here but everywhere has A/C. In fact I have A/C and a ceiling fan. I’m hardly at the Ritz, I’m next to the dump… yes, I’m moving lol.
When I say 30 it will be cloudy all day too.
I’m just going to catch up on Pensioncraft and I’ll get back to you. Type away.
I am working on what 30c is , not on metric , got it Lol 😆! 30 C is 86 Fahrenheit.
@777Q That is on a cloudy day.
I don’t know how old you are but you should watch Pensioncraft on YouTube and watch a lot of it as it is pretty heavy going at first. I’m 41 and I wish I could have looked after my finances much younger. Compound interest was described by Einstein as the eighth wonder of the world and your investments increase exponentially. So much cheaper than a financial advisor and do dimple once you get it. You will especially love it if you like maths. It is basically financial education for US and UK with a guy who gives financial education to investment bank employees. He doesn’t tell you what to do with your money, he just makes it do you can decide for yourself. You will save a ton in fees like you wouldn’t believe. Especially in the long run.
@NotSoNewb82 This is very coincidental, because about 3 days ago I started to consider having a consultation with a financial advisor. I am several years older than you , wish I took better care of my finances, years ago , never too late I guess. Will look at pension craft .
@777Q They may inly charge a couple of percent but effectively in the long term that is half your gain. You can make about 9.5% on stocks over the long term. They are very up and down short term so technically risky but you just buy a single fund that comprises the entire market in small amounts and in the long run since records began the stock market averages to 9.5% a year. Stock pickers almost always fail to even match this average without their fees. They say “why look for the needle in the haystack? Just buy the haystack.” All you have to do is when it crashes don’t sell. Honestly YouTube is the place to look.
If you get contamination OCD consider this a trigger warning. I’ve just seen them sweeping out the kitchen of the momo shop I eat at. Oh deary deary me it was God awful. No wonder I’ve been getting extra use out of the bum gun.
I found a chemist. I’ve tried a propranolol… seems legit. I don’t know if you know @Mowgli bit he has recommended speaking to other travellers to see which Dr they use and go down that route. I’ll be in the tourist community from Wednesday so there should be travellers there.
That is one way . Also maybe there is some Health Grades site online in India where you can study the backgrounds and reviews of different medical professionals.
Hey Buddy, how are things going ? I realize it is about 4 am in your area.
@777Q I’m in the backpackers district. I hate it. Nice hotel too expensive, hotel food is cheap and tasty though. Apart from that there is nothing traditional about the place. In the poor area there was culture in every orifice. Here it’s all plastic, cheap and tacky. On the plus side though the stench from the rubbish dump next door isn’t here and my pillows don’t make my scalp itch. So swings and roundabouts. 😂🤣
@777Q There is a cave up the road where lord Shiva meditated. Gotta be worth popping up there. I need to find a ghat which is steps down to the river.
@NotSoNewb82 Lord Shiva that is very special place to visit . I do a fair amount of reading on meditation and zen .Dalai Lama and so on.
@777Q Really. What have you read?
Excellent book . I have that one it is 227 pages copyright 2002 . Subtitled Wisdom for Cooling the Flames .
@777Q Do you lose your temper still?
@NotSoNewb82 Yes I do unfortunately, nothing in life is 100%.
There is a podcast of his talks I think. I’m going to listen to one.
What do you think it would cost me in India for two weeks to travel the country and maybe do a get together with you along the way ? In USA dollars?
You’d have to check flights where you are. I’m going to accommodation after here that is $122 a month which won’t be the Ritz and tue place I’m at now is nice and costs £244 a week. Accommodation will cost more from outside India. I stayed in a dirty place by the dump from Booking.com for $200 for the week. I mean have a look but be careful. I almost got killed the first day.
Hey buddy glad I caught up with you. Going to bed in about 20 minutes.
@777Q I walked down to the river today and bought some beads. They are quite clearly glass and were quite clearly overpriced but you have to fit in. I saw a tall model type from who knows where (white) at a restaurant. I’ve yet to fit into the backpacker crowd but I’m enjoying the district much more. The shops are better going to the river. There are hotels that way too so I might find somewhere cheap.
@777Q I just tipped the housekeeping boy 500R which is just over $6. Apparently 5-10R is an adequate tip for them so I think the housekeeping boy is starting early retirement.
Are you happy with your move overall?
@777Q I’m just waiting to have more money. That is why I moved here in the first place. I’ve had upfront fees from letting the house and I’m still working out how to live cheaply here. I’m in a nice hotel and I don’t need to be for one.
@777Q Once I have money I will start investing and I can do more tourist stuff.
@NotSoNewb82 They do rafting down the Ganges.
All in due time, stay in touch. Getting ready for bed almost 1 am here . Good Night.
@777Q Haha I’ve just woke up. Good night.
It is almost 10 am here . Just thought of you some of the best spices are from India. I was just using organic Pride of India Amla powder and a organic tumeric powder.
What are you up to, staying out of trouble 👿 I hope 🤞!
@777Q Of course. 😇 Well doing my best anyway.
@777Q My neighbours bumped into a lady in the supermarket who happened to travel to India on a regular basis. Anyway she gave them her number and now I talk to her regularly on Whatsapp. She will be in India from September and we are going to meet up. I’m not holding my breath for anything because they usually aren’t interested tbh. It will be nice to meet up though as she has helped me a lot.
Is English commonly spoken through your travels?
@777Q Pigeon English or no English at all. You can get by with hand signals and basic words.
@NotSoNewb82 I know a few of their words too.
@777Q Where have you travelled to?
Canada , Mexico , Haiti, Turks and Caicos Islands and many of the 50 US states. On the translator app on phone I don’t see Indian for language to learn a few words?
@777Q They have about 120 languages. Most people speak Hindi though.
I slipped in the dirt of a Hindu cow today. I consider it a blessing. 🧘♂️
@NotSoNewb82 Tbh though it was all up my leg. The lady in the roadside cate helped me wash it off.
What are you up to buddy?
@777Q Going to sleep. I move accommodation tomorrow.
@777Q Night night.
Hey buddy hope you’re doing ok 👍? I am starting a second contact thread called India 2 . So that it won’t be as buried to the bottom of things the thread .
