Perhaps you may choose to ask the physician before prescribing any medications as to if they would consider prescribing a DNA mouth swab test first to check for your drug interactions and compatibility on a personal basis. I had one done years back and it was extremely helpful.
@777Q I had no idea something like this existed! I’m going to inquire about this at my next appointment.
@Anonymous I had discovered through this test that I am not compatible with 90% of the medications they tested for . Tested sleep aids , pain medications , anti depressants and so on .The good thing also is test needs to only be done once in a lifetime because DNA remains the same . From what I have noticed only about 25 % of doctors will write the prescription for this type of test .
Luvox-no side effects.
@susang how long did it take to “kick in”
@susang Unfortunately I had tachycardia, anxiety attacks, and a tremor with Luvox so I stopped.
I have taken a few medications over several years, but I don’t think I took high enough doses to help with OCD (focused on depression). Generic Prozac - It was fine until I got to the high side of a medium sized dose, and I felt nausea. Generic Paxil - my body did not realize I was full Generic Luvox - answered in above response to another poster. Generic Effexor XR — decreased libido. Also, if I accidentally forget 2 or more doses withdrawal effects start to kick in. I did currently raise the dose to see if it would help with my OCD, and it did not have an effect close to maximum. But just because it didn’t help me doesn’t mean it’s not helpful for someone else (in regards to OCD). Same when it comes to side effects and if someone experiences them!
@Anonymous thank you so much for taking the time to write this all out! i really appreciate it and will keep that everyone reacts differently to each medication in my mind when i talk to my psychiatrist!:)
I used to be on fluvoxamine , the side effects were shakiness, loss of appetite, tiredness and vivid dreams
Lexapro
I've been on a few different meds over the past 15+ years. Zoloft, Cipralex, one other I can't recall, and now I'm on an SNRI - Effexor. I haven't had any major side effects. Some weight gain and I found one or two reduced my libido significantly... but thankfully Effexor doesn't do that to me! I missed intimacy during those times.
So I have been diagnosed with GAD and OCD and my psychiatrist prescribed me with zoloft 🤔 but I dont know im really hesitant to start medication because im scared of the side effects and ik afraid of relying on a medication for a long time. Does anyone else take zoloft? What is it like? Any side effects?
At this point I feel like I need to get on something ASAP. I know that therapy is a long road and hard work and I am totally down to do it but in the short term (I just started this journey) I think I need pharmaceutical help. Some of the people closest to me agree. I have never been on meds before and it's scary AF but the road I am going down is scarier. Advice?
As my current mental health has definitely reached a new low, I will probably soon start with medication. However, since I am actually somewhat afraid of the typical side effects of antidepressants and mood-stabilizers, I wanted to ask anyone who is or has been taking medication for OCD and or depression (and mood-swings). I recently got also diagnosed with depression (I’ll be further tested for burnout) and I also suffer from pretty intense mood swings and anxiety, both really draining the last bit of energy that I currently have. You can honestly be as specific and descriptive as you want since I don’t know any people in my personal life that take any medication for their mental health and I’m genuinely curious about side effects, how long the different meds take to kick in, etc. The only meds I’m familiar with are beta blockers, specifically bisoprolol but I want to switch to propranolol.
