Panicking. Narcissist?

This is really random but help would be appreciated. So I love the idea of having a baby when I'm older (not actually carrying it bc the idea of having it inside me makes me feel odd) but not a child. Babies are just so adorable and cute. Children though idk. I looked it up online bc I thought maybe this is normal. I found a thing saying how people who just like babies like having something that has to depend on them and how it's a thing about having power and how it's sick and narcissistic. I'm panicking because I didn't think of it like this and I just don't want to be an awful person. Of course I don't think I would ever have a child, baby or not, but I like to read stories with families with babies and get bored when the child grows up, maybe it IS bc the baby has to depend on the parents and it is almost helpless . I feel so disappointed in myself. I didn't realise.

It’s ok. I know you’re not a selfish narcissist. You know why? Because any therapist will tell you that a narcissist wouldn’t self evaluate and ask themselves that. Plus, you wanna take care of a cute baby, how bad of a person could you be? It’s natural as humans to wanna nurture and take care of a baby, in fact, it’s scientifically proven that the reason babies smell so good is so that people will wanna take care of them. So you’re good.

Thank you so much! :) :) I didn't know that fact about babies, that's cool! I'm kind of curious what babies actually smell like bc I've never really met one before haha! I've calmed a little and tried to tell myself that well yes it could be a thing of wanting to be responsible for something, but I know I would never have children just because babies are cute 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️all generations have good and bad aspects and children are real people!

@Chlo3264 You’re very welcome. Also, I totally understand not wanting to take care/have a child of your own, but still wanting to be around a baby. I think there is actually a job in hospitals where, babies who are unwanted but still need love and affection have people people come in and just rock them to sleep and things like that. That could be something you may wanna try.

Yeah, they're making a lot of assumptions in drawing that conclusion. That's not the most likely scenario so it's strange that's what they jumped to. Babies have a lot of appeal, but not because they're dependent. They're cute and cuddly. We are wired to love babies - some experts say that babies are extra cute for a reason... I'm going to word this poorly because the words aren't coming easily... they require a lot of care & attention so being cute keeps caregivers bonded and engaged with them. Annnnnyway, while I can't say someone is or isn't anything, I can be pretty certain that conclusion that person has drawn is a huge stretch. Most people aren't narcissists and not everyone wants to raise children, yet many of them love babies.

Hi! Thank you so much! :) :) I do feel that perhaps part of it COULD be their dependency and I'm trying to sit with the fact that that is a possibility. I suppose it could be nice having someone who depends on you.. Idk. Thank you again for your kind words!

developing fear of being a narcissist?

recently ive been worrying that im ''secretly'' a narcissist and that im accidentally hurting all of my friends. it really doesnt help that i do relate a bit to some narcisstic traits like having an unstable ego/''needing'' validation, although i suspect it comes from a different source for me (like OCD, maybe?). it also hurts because ive been trying to understand more stigmatized disorders like NPD more and learning more about them so that i don't add to the demonization, but i feel like doing so has also instilled the fear into me that im accidentally harming people i care about or that im not actually a ''good person'' like how i like to think of myself

So my sis came to visit with my nephew for the first time. So the other day we were taking pics with the baby I was already feeling kinda nervous cuz I never held a baby before. Anyway it was my turn and I like I wonder if this would sexually stimulate him( not exactly the thought but the of thought was more graphic and I don't wanna disturb anyone). And I can't remember if I thought that while I was bumping him on my stomach (like how people bump babies on their hips) or before I started doing so. Anyways I can't really remember what my reaction to that thought was or if I started bumping him before or after I had that thought... So I tried not to think much of it but over time I started to spiral really bad and wonder why I thought that and why then I would bump him on my stomach after having that thought or during. I just feel so disgusted. Like was I curious about it? Did I disregard the thought because my brain thinks disturbing things? Ik right now away from that situation that ofc I have no sexual interest in my nephew at all. I played with him and helped changed diaper and everything and never had the urge to do anything inappropriate to him besides that one weird instance. So like I'm so disturbed like did that mean something? I have P OCD but that didn't really feel like an intrusive thought? I also can be very impulsive, and if it was impulsive does that mean I had a desire? Now I'm terrified of having kids even though I wanted some or to foster some. I mean I know but myself I'm not sexually attracted to kids but then why would I think that I am so disturbed really and feel so sick. 😞😞😞😞 I don't know what to do I'm so scared about what my motivation was I feel so bad and scared😞😞😞😞
