I have these awful intrusive thoughts while I'm attending church and in return I keep compulsively praying and sometimes I wonder that what if God's gonna punish me for not having faith in Him and keep compulsively praying and that He might make all of these horrible thoughts come true .... Oh Lord I'm so scared... wth is wrong with my brian? why won't it shut up?
Well, there was a time when it happened to me so much, the closer I got to God, the more afraid I was of sinning or even thoughts that were not normal, but I understood that this sometimes happens when we know that something good is happening to us, we we sabotage ourselves. So don't feel bad, God is not going to punish you, I assure you, he just wants you to not give up, he doesn't ask us to be perfect. ❤️🥰🥺
Well, it won't shut up because you're doing compulsions. Compulsions keep you in the OCD loop and make the intrusive thoughts more frequent. Compulsive praying was a problem for me, too. Now I *only* pray when I'm not having OCD symptoms and am not having high anxiety. ERP will help you get better.
I know this is reassurance so maybe I shouldn’t say this… but God has endless compassion for the sick and hurt. He sees your ocd and your desire to do things right and He has compassion and love for you. The idea that God will punish you is your ocd talking. It’s an intrusive thought, just as the other thoughts. God has seen it all before (in my brain and I’m sure in many others’ brains on this app). You can’t shock Him with your thoughts. He knows you don’t want this and I encourage you to let that be enough for now. As long as you’re pushing these thoughts away the more they will come up. When you think a thought, don’t label it as good or bad, simple acknowledge the thought, shrug and move on with your day. Your ocd will tell you all kinds of lies about what God thinks about you doing that but they’re not true. When you start being unbothered by the thoughts is when they will diminish. It’s also only logical for them to be there in church. They can pass, but you’ve got to stop judging yourself for having them. Leave the judging to God. Not to your ocd.

Church is a very difficult time for me, as well. Sitting in church, listening, allowing my mind to wander, feeling guilt (instead of grace!). It’s hard. Not to give reassurance, but you are loved by God.
You are loved and understood by God. Sometimes it helps me to think of the people God chose and used in the Bible. If He can forgive them- he can certainly forgive us. The thief on the cross was mocking Jesus before asking Him to remember Him....and just like that Jesus accepted him. God is so forgiving and merciful and full of acceptance and love.
I don’t think God would he mad or punish you for that. I would compulsively pray for years! I am not sure if it is same thing your experiencing but I would only pray for certain people in such a routine way and would rarely expand who else I would pray for (not sure why, it just felt like a compulsion) and eventually I had to tell myself god probably wants me to pray for different people on different days or different seasons of my life and that’s okay! I put it in the hands of the Holy Spirit for my prayer life and stopped letting the OCD control that. I’m not sure if that’s helpful but I have compulsions in church too where it takes away from the message some days
Does anyone else get intrusive thoughts while praying or thinking of God? It has been stressing me out so bad. I feel like I’m a bad Christian or somethings wrong with me cause sometimes I get flooded with intrusive thoughts when I try to focus my time on God.
I'm religious, so anyone else who is religious I need to know if this happens to y'all. When I read the Bible, which I want to do twice a day, I feel like I have to reread and reread stuff bc if I didn't comprehend it properly, something bad would happen, or my fears would come true. I also have intrusive thoughts that come into my head about what I'm reading and the thoughts will say something bad about the Bible or about God, and it's like I know God knows I didn't say it but I have to "undo" the thought by getting up out of my seat completely, and saying something that "undoes" it then I can sit back down and read. Sometimes I also shake my head or hit myself in the head trying to rid of the thought. And say "no, no, of course not" and stuff like that trying to undo the thought that intruded...
When I pray, sometimes I get certain thoughts that either curse God out of the blue or just have gross thoughts that aren’t my own. According to my religion, cursing God and meaning it is an unforgivable sin , and I am scared that I will go to hell which is my absolute worst fear. I’ve talked to my boyfriend about it and he says it’s not how I truly feel, but I feel so scared when it happens often when I can’t help it. I don’t know how to stop this since the more I think about it the worse the thoughts get.
