Just went down the Reddit rabbit hole. Consumed a bunch of posts of people saying that anyone who did what I did is a piece of shit who shouldn’t be given the time of day. And guess I agree, but seeing so many people say it in one place can make my head spin. It’s just hard because I was having an ok day. I even gave somebody on here advice earlier. But now I feel so drained. And so so selfish for trying to move forward.
I would honestly avoid rabbit holes like Reddit if you’re looking for carrots. That hole is absolutely teeming with abusive, edge-lord rabbits, and they have pretty much eaten all the carrots. You’re allowed to make mistakes, to learn from them, and move on. It’s how all humans do life. You don’t need to ruminate over the forgiveness you hypothetically may or may not get from trolls you don’t know and who don’t know you, for having done something you deeply regret and would never do again. You are not alone, and you are not unforgivable, so stay strong and keep the faith! It may take time, but you will get past this.
@Pudu OCD Thank you so much for this! I totally understand, it’s just so when I feel like I’m doing the wrong thing by avoiding/ignoring opinions like that. Like I am not taking accountability. It feels like everyone I pass on the street would think the same about me if they knew me. But your message of hope means so much to me 🤍
I’ve been down the Reddit rabbit hole many times searching for reassurance and sometimes I’d get it and sometimes I wouldn’t and it would exacerbate my obsessions. My advice is to get off Reddit or at least limit your use to OCD related subreddits. I saw a lot of improvement when I did that. And not exposing yourself to every random persons opinions is helpful with moving on from your subject. Hang in there, real event is a tough one to manage but there are thing you can do to mitigate the symptoms.
Reddit is garbage. I wouldn't even use it for ERP, to be honest.
Deleted the app too as it was Reddit that fuelled my latest obsession
@benjita1 I went through a point where I was spending about 4 hours a day either on Reddit, or googling my event with “Reddit” at the end. It’s so exhausting when it feels like the opinions you read there reflect what the general population would think. Deleting it is probably for the best. I try to put restrictions on it, but I always worn my way around them 🙃
@enola The problem with Reddit and many other similar sites is that they are an easy place for people to hide behind and be either keyboard warriors or trolls who are highly opinionated. The same people who probably wouldn’t give you the same advice if you spoke to them in person. Still an easy place to get sucked into if looking for reassurance as I know! Thats OCD for you!

Woke up with suicidal thoughts this morning. I developed a new compulsion of looking at reddit forums similar to my situation. This particular one set me off and now I really feel unlovable. Just like the girlfriend he is describing I am also 27 and tried a sugar baby site for 2 months and was taken advantage of and it was also poor naive decision making on my part. I have previously posted on Reddit pages asking for advice about my obsessions I see now it was solely reassurance. what makes me feel worse is I have SOOCD, so I would go to LGBT/lesbian Reddits and ask if I seemed gay. The last time I did this was Thursday. A woman responded saying what I posted was offensive, considering being a lesbian is not at all bad (which I wholeheartedly agree) and asked why I was using their space as confirmation that i was straight. I feel like an Asshole. I came into their community for self-serving issues, which I already knew was wrong as I had deleted posts there before. Women who legitimately struggle with questioning or fears about their safety because of their sexuality do not need to fix my “marriage problems” by telling me I sound straight. I just hate that I get into these moods and do things I know aren’t good. These poor women and others on those pages did not deserve what I posted.
I made a post earlier today about what’s been going through my head in my relationship rn and how confused I’ve been. And I had multiple people comment and tell me that maybe I don’t love my partner the way I thought I did or maybe my intuition was telling me to leave and find someone else. And I’m so freaking stressed now because idk what to do. I can’t take it anymore. I’m at the end of my rope
