This perfectionism ocd is getting out of hand... I keep restarting all over again and again cuz things just don't feel right or aren't in order when it comes to praying. I wanna create a perfect order where I can pray, meditate and read the Holy Bible but Lord is it so difficult to get things in order cuz I still feel like I'm doing something not right or that I've left something out
Personally I pray start and end of the day . I feel God looks deep into each person for sincerity and if what is verbally being prayed is a little bit off I really don’t think God will hold that against a person.
I too mostly pray in the morning and at night but it's just that I wanna focus on my faith as some previous events in my life almost shattered my faith in Lord, and I want things to be going smoothly and perfectly with my praying habits but I just keep messing things up... Maybe in another way I would say, I wanna perfect myself for Lord
@Ella_ Rose I love to hear you say this! What a beautiful desire!!! One thing that's awesome is that we are made perfect in the Lord when we receive Him as our Savior! Because of what He did and does for us, not what we do. Grace is amazing for sure! Our OCD minds are hyper critical and hard on ourselves, which makes the experience of grace and unconditional love difficult. He love you just the way you are, Ella

Relating to God, the Bible, etc can easily become a compulsion, for me too. It's important to recognize it when it's happening because OCD distorts that as it does everything else. You're not alone in this. I'd love to talk with you more and share some things that have helped me. With OCD, it's not possible for us to experience unconditional love of God.
And there is no proper or improper way to pray, God just wants to be with us. :-)
And God knows your heart as well.
@Mike in PA I do recognize it when it's happening but the thing is that I just can't seem to stop...no matter how hard I try Oh I'd love to talk more about all this with you and yes, I'm open to your advices, please carry on!
@Mike in PA There are times where I pray with all my heart and soul- it's not like other times I don't, but it's just that other times my mind keeps racing and I'm caught up in intrusive thoughts that at times I even forget that I'm praying
@Ella_ Rose I know exactly what you're going through, I have the same struggles at times. It's like there's too much bouncing around in my mind. So I really need to apply the tools I learned in therapy before. One is the uncertainty thing. Ruminating and self talk are compulsions of mine, so I need to stop that, allow the uncertainty and the feelings of uneasiness with the uncertainty, then invite God in at that moment, right where I am. Sometimes it's not even me praying harder at that moment, just sitting there in my stuff, allowing God in and being still. I have a list of affirmations from scripture I refer to often as well. I'd love to share with you.

@Ella_ Rose There's 19 of the 50. I love these because God's word endures forever, and is Truth. My mind is all over the place at times. Hello! I have religious ocd and I used to struggle with it extremely badly. I'm doing MUCH better now but ocd is a healing journey. Hey guys just wondering if anyone suffers from this type of OCD. I feel a big struggle to even begin things because it doesn’t feel right or if I resume things it doesn’t feel right. Anyone have any advice ? Thank you
Anyone else struggling with reading their bible or having a certain feeling to feel like God loves them and if they don’t it ruins their whole time with God. Makes pursuing him really hard. Any tips ?
I've been doing more research on the ins and outs of Catholicism, and man are the guidelines very strict. They're not bad in any sense, and following them makes for a good person, but with ocd these guidelines seem near impossible to properly follow. For example, it's a mortal sin to have an impure thought, and commiting a mortal sin puts you in a state of sin. This means you cannot receive the eucharist (body of Christ) at mass, which is a way to connect closer to God. You have to confess in order to be free from mortal sin. This is fine and all, but this means in my case I'd have to confess almost every week, which can be so tiring. I'm not trying to bash on my own religion, but these guidelines make it so incredibly difficult for me to feel good about myself. Knowing I'm committing one of the worst forms of sin everyday. Intrusive thoughts are a constant thing, does that make me a child of sin? I even skipped mass today because I feel guilty about being in mortal sin, but skipping mass is also a mortal sin! I feel absolutely terrible about myself right now, and feel as if my connection with God has been cut and it's entirely my fault...
