we should just rename ocd at this point and then them have the term. i'm so tired of hearing "im so ocd because im a virgo" or "im so ocd because i can't have wrinkles in my shirt". I can't even tell them that's not what it is because they will start defending the fact that they have it and that is what ocd is.
Yeah, must be nice to have such a simple view of something so freaking debilitating.
@Mike in PA for real and they claim it makes them panic and stuff but they really don't understand because it's not the thing that is scary it's the thought behind it. its exhausting, i say i have ocd and they say me too.
@Erika-Alexx So true. And they have no idea what intrusive thoughts are, etc. And at the same time I find I need to extend them a little grace too, because yeah, they don't really get it.
I feel the same way . I opened about my OCD now but when people would say omgehh my house is spotless because of ocd … I’m looking at them like ….. your house is cleaned because you cleaned it that’s it that’s all … the OCD is so exhausting and painful … I wish people knew more about it 😫😫
Me too. I share good YouTube videos with loved ones with the hope that they'll understand me a little bit.
@Kayla37 omg for real, they think it's a preference and they should be proud of it... no it is a disorder!

@Mike in PA im doing better. i feel like i have less anxiety and more guilt. but ive gotten good at going about my day regardless

I read your bio @Kayla37. I experience that darkness too. Are your bad moments becoming less frequent and severe?
@Mike in PA Hey , yes they are definitely not as bad but my theme changes . So I’m in that stage where I’m conquering this theme & dealing with the awkwardness of no anxiety … I deal with harm ocd & it attacks my children . So it’s pretty intense even being in recovery this long .
@Kayla37 It attacks your children because you value them highly. I see the same in me, what I value most, that's what it attacks. I hate this OCD thing. So happy for you and your progress:-)

@Kayla37 I bet! I have 2 boys, 25 & 21. I loved every minute raising them, my imagination and theirs, lol, the adventure was awesome. Kind of feel a void having not had a daughter. :-( Is their dad involved with them?
OCD is so much more than just being 'neat' or 'organized'—it’s relentless, exhausting, and often deeply misunderstood. The intrusive thoughts, the compulsions, the anxiety—it can feel like a never-ending cycle that others just don’t seem to get. Many of us have had experiences where even therapists didn’t fully grasp the depth of our struggles. I myself faced difficulty being misdiagnosed and my talk therapist not understanding the full extent of what I was going through until I found NOCD. So many prior therapists wrote off my symptoms as general anxiety, not realizing it was actually OCD all along. If you could sit down with a therapist who truly wanted to understand, what do you wish they knew about OCD?
When I hear the others might think that they could also have ocd when I tell them I could have it or they want to say they have it after I’ve got diagnosed with, without knowing how I feel it is like why do I always have to have something and then they say they also might have it are they supporting, joking or what?
I know that sounds a bit harsh, but people with OCD think very differently then everyone else and we do strange things. I used to think OCD was just that we overthink to much and have compulsions to fix it, but its kinda alot more than that i realise. Like peoples lives are legit debilitated from this thing. Thats serious and i dont think others realise that. Mabye im concerned too much idk.
