Inner knowing
This is my second post today but I don’t care. People with OCD have trouble when it comes to inner knowing or “trusting your gut”. I have this problem that’s extremely frustrating and depressing. I often get emotional when it comes to stuff like this. Does OCD usually attack your inner knowing? Help….
Deep down at a extremely deep level your intuition is fully intact and there . It is there at a core level in all of us . Unraveling of the top layers is the OCD and all of lives dramas . The real you is beneath all that . You will discover it , I will say a prayer for you.🙏✝️

yes it does! that’s all it does!! lol i’ve struggled with this for yeaarrssss!! the thing is, is that our gut is affected while we’re anxious so there’s no telling if it’s “gut instincts” or anxiety! i know it sucks and you’re probably worried that your body is telling you something or that you should trust your gut instincts. but it’s just your anxiety and ocd. super normal for our tummies and our gut to be instantly affected once we’re anxious and obsessing.
So how do you deal with it i have the same problem as anthony sometimes.
@digitalwatch Thing is it attacks my inner knowing a lot. Like is it trying to tell me something or will something occur. Or things like will I do this and do that. These are things that are against what I stand for and desire. OCD does this?
I totally struggle with this! I second guess my “gut” all the time. I actually have a rule that i don’t make big decisions when I’m having an episode because the outcome wouldn’t be what I truly wanted deep down.
You make a interesting question. I feel intuition is extremely helpful to me . I feel it is different than OCD in many ways .OCD dwells on and on on a given topic to the point of confusion and frustration and nausea. Intuition on the other hand 🖐️is a positive inter workings of heart and mind . It is knowing to read the vibrations, rhythms and assessment of people and situations with a type of wisdom. Sorry this sounds a little wordy and obscure on my part . Let me try to give one solid example. You are departing a convenience store in a unfamiliar area . You are in the parking lot , there is a choice of three separate individuals to ask a question of , intuitively you decide who of the three has the best chance of answering your question and hopefully not harming you . Intuitively you read the situation. Let’s say you decide wrong and the worst choice of someone you ask a question and they assault you . The second person just gives the wrong answer answer and the third person safely answers the question and is polite.

I feel with certain things I can fully “trust my gut” and other things I can’t. When I was younger and still in the process of understanding/accepting the ocd part of myself I was envious of my peers that could for what seemed like all the time! I agree with the frustration it brings up.
I’ve struggled with medical OCD for most of my life without realizing it. I feel like as a kid I always heard stories where people listened to their gut instigating and it was correct and they saved themselves. I remember overhearing my mom talking about a boy who had hit his head at a soccer game and told his parents “I need to go to the hospital something is wrong” and it turns out he was bleeding in his brain and needed immediate surgery. My mom said “it just goes to show you need to listen to your body”. I am constantly listening or watching, particularly when I’m under stress. Of course all of the extraneous symptoms are almost always the result of my anxiety (finger tingling, chest pain you name it anxiety is probably the cause). I’ve trained myself to take this line of rationalization when such symptoms appear. It terrifies me because how will I know something is really wrong when I can’t trust my own brain. I feel like I’m fighting a battle against myself all the time. I just want to know that I’ll be able to take care of myself but I can’t know that for sure.
How can you tell the difference between your gut instinct that something is wrong or OCD?
I felt so understood when I learned that a characteristic of OCD is to question or doubt your own judgment. This is something I experienced quite frequently, and especially around my physical disability which causes pain. I wanted to ask if anybody else living with OCD and a disability or chronic illness sometimes questions their pain and has thought patterns along the lines of "this hurts... but does it really hurt?" Or " I don't feel good.... but do I just not feel good because I'm thinking about how I don't feel good?" Let me know in the comments if this is something you experience.
