I totally agree with you so many really are uneducated what it means to struggle with the chronic illness
This is how the minimization of the devastation this disease has caused in us true sufferers. Which only makes it harder for us to talk about it to others and sometimes professionals especially those that only have found out about it by seeing the "funny" side portrayed in movies and TV. It's now a cliche.
Well maybe it’s our duty to correct these people no matter the consequences. Easier said lol
Ooh the all time biggest annoyance...on the inside. Everytime I hear it its like little jab on the inside.
????
What u look like when u use someone’s disease as a quirk: ???
While I agree with your second statement, it’s important not to gatekeep mental disorders. Some people have “just a little” OCD or some psychotic symptoms. OCD does not have to be disabling to be OCD. On top of that, the way we classify what counts as a disorder and what doesn’t is based on very shaky ground, so to speak. We have little understanding of how these disorders manifest biologically, to the point where we could be diagnosing people with OCD that have totally different biological dysfunctions. This adds back to my point earlier — terms such as OCD are not well-founded and are used for convenience. What matters are your symptoms, not your near arbitrary diagnosis, and telling people they don’t have the symptoms they claim to have because they’re not disabling is unfair to them.
I put my hands up. Even my best friend believes there is no such a thing as ocd
Oh my gosh. That would be hard. My mom thinks she has it and says "my ocd" all the time when stressed...but she doesnt have it lol, I got it from my Dads family
massively agree! if we gatekeep whether someone has a disorder or not based on if they're high functioning, then there are thousands of people who'd just have to suffer in silence. im one of the more high functioning sufferers, but all that means is that i force myself through life with all of the shit happening (and i already only have access to self-treatment.) sometimes it's downright torturous to the degree that on bad days i can lose the will to live, but it doesn't actually stop me from doing anything, so some people still won't see me as "ocd enough." some people do only have moderate high functioning versions of a disorder, that doesn't make them less worthy of the diagnosis than people with severe low functioning versions
I think this meme is about raising awareness of OCD in general and the common suffering in silence we all experience.
friend- i have OCD too me- *in my head* repeating the last sentence of what he said before that me- *also in my head* come again? i think the fuck not?
I have a feeling that some people that I have shared this with who claim they have OCD too may just have some obsessive compulsive behaviors but not to the point where it's disabling. I always assume that they call it OCD so that I don't feel alone. If I'm right they are well-intentioned but it's still very annoying because there's a huge difference between having some obsessive compulsive behaviors and having the disorder.
?
Or you say you have obsessions and compulsions and its very very obviously im ocd but they go but are you diagnosed with it? Me: no. Friend: so why you self diagnosing? Me: im suprised he asked that despite the 1000 text messages last night Iv been treated in the past but never diagnosed
