Zoloft
How long did it take you to start feeling like Zoloft was helping your mood/helping to cope with intrusive thoughts? And what dosage seemed best. I’m on 50 MG now. Thanks!!!

I have health OCD too. And I am just now almost 4 full weeks in on 50 MG. I meet with my Dr next week. I feel like it’s working, but may need a bit more to help quell the anxiety.
@Anonymous How are you feeling?
@benjita1 Doing ok. Still worried about chest pains, but hanging in there. I’ve had several normal heart tests btw - so I’m definitely OCD
@Anonymous I recently had heart worries myself so I understand where you are coming from 👍🏻

@pesjt How are you feeling today?
@pesjt Same here buddy 👍🏻
And my psychiatrist was willing to put me up to 150 but I told him I didn't think I would do that.
Not sure if I have replied to one of your previous questions?! I’m on day 25, days 1 - 9 were so so, 9 - 20 felt I had more energy and the intrusive thoughts felt less “sticky” but days 21 - 25 I have felt the intrusive thoughts creep back but the anxiety feels much less intense but I know it’s in the background. I had the 1 month check up today with my Doctor and he was reluctant to put the medication up as he said it’s quite common to feel like this to start with while my my body gets used to the medication. I’m on 50mg. I have seen many posts saying the same thing where week 4 is hard but things improve after week 5. Everyone is different so the dosage amounts can vary massively. Some people need 25mg and some need 200mg but the doctors will tend to prescribe the lowest amount possible which is another reason it can take a while to get the correct dosage. It will get easier and for me I’m glad I have started the medication even though I was against it for 20 years!
@benjita1 Same here I was against medication. I have Health OCD, I’ve been on Prozac for about 4 months 30mg currently and I’m like 25% better. Not much improvement so let’s see 🤷♀️
@Vjs225 Are you doing ERP therapy too? Having had Health Anxiety I know how difficult that can be. I hope things get better for you soon. Have you spoken to your doctor about your medication?
@benjita1 Yeah just started ERP as well.
We will be ok and we will make it! That much I am sure of. We will get control back from OCD
I'm on 100 mg. I find it does more for anxiety than it does intrusive thoughts. It may lessen them some but I still have them.
@Rhonda Byrd Do you feel like the anxiety is less on Zoloft?
@Anonymous Yes. I believe so. But I take mine at night. It seems to calm me down. I do therapy during the day and I feel I need to feel the anxiety and thoughts with ERP.
@Rhonda Byrd I take mine at night too! I am noticing now, almost 4 weeks in, that my anxiety is improving.
@Anonymous Yes it took at least 6 weeks to really feel different.
Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I was diagnosed with OCD just a couple of months ago and have been doing some reading and other research to try and understand the disorder. With this, I have been actively seeing a great therapist who has been helpful to build tools to deal with my intrusive thoughts ( contamination OCD is my worst theme). Do help learn to deal with the compulsions, I start on Sertraline or “Zoloft” I believe since November 2024. Currently I’m on 50mg and have been doing this for just over a month. My question for those who are also taking Sertraline and it has been successful, how do you know it has really provided a benefit and how long did it take to get there? I sometimes feel the medication works, and sometimes I feel it doesn’t (maybe that’s my OCD trying to mess with things). Thanks!
So my doctor is starting me on 25 mg of Zoloft soon and I'm actually really exicted. I'm finally ready for this to be manageable. I know it's not a cure but I am told that zoloft is primarily recommended for specifically ocd. I'm not sure if I'm ready to start it tonight but yeah. Please do not tell me any negative side effects or anything related to nausea since I'm taking it for emetophobic contamination ocd and I don't need any opinions to make me biased but if any of yoy had SUCCESSFUL zoloft stories please comment!!
Hello last year I had gone thru a very rough time In my life where I needed to be put on Zoloft 50mg around march 2024. I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and OCD. Ive been suffering from OCD since I was like 11 and depression since I was 19, but I never sought help until last year Im 27 because I knew I needed it to help me get thru life. I was on 3 months on Zoloft and I went to a trip to Miami which honestly helped me so much, I honestly attribute that trip to Miami in healing me more than the Zoloft it self. I met my current girlfriend there. After coming back I felt like a new person. I still kept taking the Zoloft 50mg until late April (2025) this year when I decided to tapper down to 25mg by my self without a doc recommendation, I didn’t feel anything during the month of may this year until like may 30th when I woke up in a panic and I felt like I was back at square 1 before I started Zoloft. Mind you ive been thru some life changes, I recently graduated RN school and my gf moved in with me. Ever since the end of may I’ve been very anxious, my OCD is on high gear and my depression too. I went back up to 50mg I’m seeing a new doc, my questions is has anyone gone thru a similar situation? If so what helped you and how long did it take you to stabilize ?
