Medication keeping me sick?

Anyone find that their medication is making you worse or keeping you sick?. I've been on SSRI's for almost 5 years now since my first mental breakdown. I haven't ever shown improvement in 5 years, just gotten worse and i feel more stressed each morning after taking my SSRI. I'm also taking an anti-psychotic. I'm sick and tired of the doctors going take this or take that, or stop taking that one and take this one instead. I feel like a human lab rat sometimes, I've developed stomach gastritis as a result of taking all this medication long term. I'm not saying that medication doesn't help people because some people it does, but it's never done anything for me and i feel like it's stopping my bodies natural healing processes.

Have you talked to any doctors about getting off the medication? I'm sure it would take a while and would have to be done very little at a time esp because its been 5 years, but maybe its worth a shot! I haven't taken an SSRI yet so I can't relate 100%, but my stomach was destroyed because of antibiotics and I ended up with IBS, make sure to take probiotics if you aren't already and try to see what foods affect you more than others. Listen to your body. I hope that you're able feel better soon, I know how much stomach problems suck and stress makes them sooo much worse:/ Sending you good vibes 🤍🤍🤍

When I had my first mental break down I was taking heavy antibiotics due to gut parasites. It was literally within a day of taking them and I now know the link between gut health and mental health. I tried to explain this to the doctor's but they don't understand the link and just want to treat the symptoms...

Yes, I feel similar to you. I had a breakdown a few years ago, I was wrongly diagnosed with bipolar, they put me on mirtazipine and seroquel, I’m still on a very low dose of seroquel, I managed to cut down the rest. And I feel it’s keeping me depressed. I with come off everything, but I’m gonna do the last bit I’m on very slowly

Are you also doing ERP? The mediation by itself isn't necessarily going to help you improve... it can help reduce symptoms, but if you're still doing compulsions, it's entirely likely that OCD will continue to get worse, in spite of mediation. Just something to consider, in addition to the possibility that the mediation just isn't helping.

Yeah, I've tried many things over the years. Unfortunately I've got other co existing mental conditions alongside OCD that make it difficult to say the least 🤦

Looking for insight on OCD/depression medications

(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?

Good morning fellow soldiers, I hope everyone’s had a positive week! I wanted to touch on medication(s); specifically SSRI’s 💊 For both those currently taking and those contemplating taking and the importance of taking your medication(s) as prescribed. For example, I’ve been inconsistent the past three months ever since moving. And unfortunately, I’ve noticed differences here and there. I’m currently in the process of getting back on track as prescribed, but I also have noticed that I most definitely need a decrease in milligrams overall. Case in point; just because you start out taking a prescribed dosage of medication(s) at first, doesn’t mean that you can’t/shouldn’t address a decrease in dosage overtime. Of course, this is something that should be discussed with both your primary care physician and/or psychiatrist for final approvals. SSRI’s can have adverse effects as well; as much good as they do for you, overdosing can also have adverse effects as well. Be self-aware, mindful, etc. We’re our own best judges and should always be open to and aware of any/all signs! Sending love, compassion and support to all those suffering from the monster and battling the beast that is OCD 💌

Starting new anxiety meds

Hi everyone, I’m 23 and have been on Zoloft since I was 16. For the past couple months I’ve been having panic attacks more and I’m sick of feeling like a zombie everyday. My boyfriend said I’m very sad and unhappy then when I first met him 2 years ago…. He thinks it’s the medicine. Throughout the years I have upped and lowered my medication, but now, I feel as though it’s not helping. Either it was too much where I didn’t feel emotions at all like very scary stuff or it wasn’t enough to help me. I was given 5mg of Lexapro to try…. I’m scared to take it. All I know is how Zoloft is. I don’t want to go crazy on it, be allergic to it, etc. I feel like I’m going to trip myself out when I take it and not actually feel the difference. I could really use some positive feedback I really just want to be a normal human😭
