OCD flare up
hey guys I’m going through a pretty bad ocd flare up right now and it really sucks :( I haven’t been sleeping properly as my anxiety wakes me up at night. A lot of new things are happening in my life + I recently got triggered by something. I know it will eventually pass but it’s just exhausting right now
I am struggling really bad too

i’m so sorry. i experience both CPTSD and OCD and i’m also going through a flare up that’s been so difficult to navigate, so I understand what you mean. what’s helping me is not trying to push it away, but assimilating and accepting that this is happening to me, that there’s suffering right here and right now.

I totally get that, my ocd had been really bad lately , and trying to get sleep has been horrible. Trying my best to push through .

One important thing when it's really hard is to practice some kind of relaxation technique, for example "prolonged muscke relaxation" - you tube. When we are in a bad state our bodies are tense and it add to our suffering and anxiety. Many ERP therapists don't talk about this because they are afraid we will develope yet another compulsion. I think that's bs - and necessary to take care when we are in tough times.

Feeling super overwhelmed.. I think I’m having an OCD flare up but I can’t even figure out what the theme or compulsions are. I was diagnosed with OCD in April 2019 and was in therapy until February 2020 and then only had maintenance visits every few months up until 2021. My OCD was good so I barely ever did ERP but now I feel like I dont remember any of the tools/how to deal with it or anything that I learned. I recently left a psychologically abusive relationship with a narcissist (am working with a therapist specializing in that) and the stress of that is what has caused my OCD to flare up. It started with fears of my family members dying (not even at all related to my break up) and just obsessing over the situation and how to heal from it. Now I’ve been having insomnia, and my OCD has latched onto it as a fear and I’ll panic and cry in the night when I can’t sleep and then obsess over it in the day. Then I obsess over the fact that I’m stressed which makes me even more stressed. I tried doing ERP by writing my fears down in “maybe” statements i.e. “maybe I’ll never sleep again, maybe I’ll lose my mind” etc. and my anxiety spiked but never came down. My therapist is no longer in practice. Would a NOCD therapist be able to help me? Is this even my OCD or is it something else?
Ive been doing well with managing my ocd for a while since ive been putting all my focus on my work. But today was a particularly bad day, and im scared that I might be getting a flare up again. My last one was horribly debilitating for months so I am terrified of it occurring again, even though this time around im better equipped with a psychiatrist and meds. But its just such a scary feeling of doom and panic, I havent been able to sleep all night. I just hope im overthinking it again and that ill be ok.
I experience OCD in what feels like cycles. I have a couple of good days or weeks and then something out of the blue will trigger a flare up. I’m just wondering if anyone else goes through the same thing or if it’s kind of a constant state for you.
