I’m really hesitating about taking medication, I’ve always been scared of medication used for mental health but my psychiatrist considers that I would benefit from these pills and that they will make my recovery easier. Can you please share your experiences with ocd medication? Has it been helpful? Did it give you some sort of addiction? Secondary effects? Thank you 🙏🏼
I’ve been using medication for OCD for 30 + years, and the side effects are minor versus the overall benefit. The medication did not cure me, but took the edge off to allow me to work through issues in therapy. Nothing is perfect, but my point of view is to use all the tools at our disposal to combat OCD. Well worth it
I’ve found that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. It’s helped manage the OCD 50%. But, that’s still a lot to go with therapy and training. I still have rough patches and setbacks (dealing with one right now) but they don’t last forever. I highly recommend a dual approach of meds and therapy.
I was also scared of taking meds at first, but I’ve found them to be helpful. I think of them as an extra tool: they won’t get rid of ocd but they’ve helped me get to a place where anxiety/discomfort feel less intense so I can do therapy. I’m on escitalopram and have had no major side effects, except for a few days of sleeplessness and upset stomach going on them

I’m on and off with my OCD. It feels all too real at times, and nonexistent at others. I’m heavily considering going medication as i feel it may be what I need to breakthrough this spell. What is your alls experiences with meds and what did you take? Please share all the good, bad and in-between!
